For Christmas, I got a couple of new instruments. So now I'm here to ask you guys how to spend my Christmas money on recording equipment! :)

First of all I really liked what I saw on Utube great stuff.
The first thing you want to invest in is Good mics! depending on what you are recording (you didn't specify) different mics for different sources.
For an example one of the people in your contact list Shara English(songpidgin) used different mics in different clips but she sounded best in "she moved through the fair" using a shure SM 7 a great vocal mic.

Heil Mum !!

My mum bought me a Heil pr-20 ut mic,I dont need a clip or wind shield n fancy colours.... She did ask what I wanted and i didn't want to be to rude so suggested something not to expensive... Nice one mum....

and a 20db attenuator pad for making a subkick for my drums. Awesome stuff.

Nice! I've seen plans to do this, and given the simplicity have been quite inclined to try it myself. Best of luck!

I managed to pick up an Akai MPK49 for Xmas... now if only I could remember how to play keyboards...

At a boy Philgood Vegas huh. Any good shows out there this time around?

That's a cool list of mics up and running before the end of the year.Where they yours and not working or did you just get them?

They're mics I restored/built for myself. I took a while to get all the parts together and find time to work on them, but they all are finally finished. I have a few more original designs I'm doing right now.

Cool there should be more of that going on in the world.
You should do some posting on the subject and spark some interest!

I got quite a bit of stuff, but I looked for the best deals and bought used on some things. 2 new mics: AKG C414 XL II and Rode NT1A. I also found a nice old TEAC 3340 4 track reel to reel for a good price. And a Passive DI box and a pair of really nice Sony noise cancelling headphones that were only $40! Can't hear somebody yelling at you when you got music goin in them. :)

Got myself a new laptop for general use/mobile recording and an AT2035 condenser. Then I went out and bought myself Alesis 520 monitors.

I have a new concept idea of not just tailor making a mic system (circuit, capsule, capacitor type and transformer type) but also making a system of grills tailor made to a specific voice style. Its absolutely amazing how once you have a good mic you can alter the finished EQ by changing the grill spacing, angles and layers to enhance or remove reflections suited to specific vocal signatures! It would be interesting to have kind of a modular capsule/grill interchangeable system, to truly customize the mics performance based on the person.

Ya philgood great idea what have you come up with so far.
I'll tell you one thing I did once was to put extra foam inside a capsule because it was not the sound I wanted but after it wasn't the sound I wanted ether so I went to an other mic.
But I know where your going here ---Talk it up some.

But start a new thread under microphones it would be buried here I'll watch for it !!!!!!!

The wifey saw to it that I got a couple of new condenser mics, Apex 435 and MXL 990 stereo (not top of the line stuff but a lot better than the Radio Shack stuff I'd been using) a couple of new mic cables and some new shielded patch cables and a half dozen sets of guitar strings. This was more than I expected so I'm a pretty happy camper. Also got the usual socks and a couple of bottles of booze but the new gear for the studio made it a very merry Christmas for me.

Me wifey got me some studiophile AV-40s and a new headphone amp :)

I couldn't rely on santa /friends of family so I went right out and bought myself a Neumann TLM103 HO HO HO HO HO HO HO .....................................what did you get?

I like this mic alot. The # 1 problem with it is it tends to sound so-so on lower quality pre-amps. The better the pre-amp, the better this mics does. Try iy sometime and you will be in for a big surprise.

If I want something studio related I have to gift myself...I got myself a Line6 Variax 600 for Christmas.

I have 4 years with mine and it is a Great Guitar for Studio Purposes.I get a Pair of Puma Sneakers,a nice Pair of Aldo Dress Shoes and a AT4047 :D

On the mic side I finally got a clip for my Sennheiser MD441, so I could actually start using it. What a difference it makes when it doesn't slide around and fall on the floor and stuff.
