Sometimes you need a little push to try something.
I've been using a legacy drive into a Marshall Valvestate 8080 for a while and can highly recommend this amp, I bought it when I was in my teens and still use it and it sounds great for what it needs to do. But it does miss some of that tube magic
When I started experimenting with Genome (replacement of wall of sound( I tried to emulate this with the amp inside the app but... long story short it sounds great but not what I look for. Although I hardly know that myself till I feel and hear it
Of course you can use the return of for example the V3 (Carvin) but I would love to keep that amp in pristine condition and only use it for recording.
Online Marshall tube power amps are in the 4-500 euro's which is a bit much for a hobby.
But... I once bought a Line 6 Spydervalve due to the name Bogner, and although it works fine for the 200-300 euros you can buy them for, but it's no competition for a Marshall DLS20 for example it still has a sort of digital "noise" in the highs. So I've tried to sell the amp for years and never found a buyer.
After seeing the video Glenn just uploaded I decided to try what he did, and now the Spydervalve is off the market
So what is the trick?
actually incredibly simple but I never did it because... well the sound "sucked".
(I did try it with the torpedo X a few times and with the proper cabs it's ok but still not wow)
On the back of the Spydervalve you can find the power amp in.
I'm now plugging my pre-amps straight into the power amp and from there into the Capture X running two cabs with mics.
The sound is to be short awesome.
Of course you can use almost any tube head with a send and return for this, but the quality of the Bogner tuned power stage is absolutely worth it if you can find one.
Price will probably go up after that video
