I think they are so cheap because they are now obsolescent. They are the real deal tho'. Another similar recommendation is B&W 602's.
Garry
They are still making the Passive "yellow cone" 8.2 according to the the new product line booklet and their website lists the 8.2 passive. i think there was a thread that mentioned they don't make the passives anymore which I believe is incorrect.
602's...are double the cost. ~$400-500.B&W's and others seem to keep quality a high priority.
yeah, it is strange the cheap Wharfs can get the double weave Kevlar, quad wrapped coil windings etc. into a cheap speaker..another is how the RNC compressor can have such a good design/quality for its low price?
i've learned from HR...not to confuse cost with quality.
a good design and decent quality components/build is key.
and in reality the quality/design costs more....as with anything, take cars or furniture for example.
its just guys, like Massive for example, and other pro's that can share some of the insights and knowledge that turn us on to some "great-cheap stuff", now and then. is all i'm saying.
like the DMP3, RNC, B&W, Yorks... i'd never heard of them? i guess i always listened to the salesman in my younger days.
now i realize they have different motivation ($$) than the pro's on this forum who are really just offering free advice. IMO.
Gary, your signature says your 5yrs old!...i'm totally blown away!!damn i wish i was 15 again and had HR.
heheee
