That's more like it. Yes, I do. You can have my autograph if you like, but please, no touching.

Bizarrely, though, I have no idea of where Wharfedale are actually based. I might look them up in the classifieds of the Wharfe Valley Times (read it and weep) next week.

So, any of you guys live in Uli Behringer??

wharfe valley times *drool*

please pm me your autograph... i wont touch you I promise... Do I'm having trouble refraining (grammar?) myself...

*do NOT touch him, control yourself!*

My hands are itching like crazy

You damn right. I wonder if they do a local discount ... another stupid question :(

I've been to the Wharfedale factory (many years ago) and it's actually in Bradford. The original factory was in Idle, which is nearby.

Has anyone read a professional review of these Wharfedale's? Sound on Sound has a review in the October edition, but I haven't read it... has anyone read this review and if so, what is the verdict?

SOS reviewed the 8.1's, which only have tiddly little bass drivers. It wasn't a particularly positive review, said they were pleasant rather than revealing, and concluded by suggesting Alesis Active MKII as an alternative :(

Shame they didn't review the 8.2's.

Amazing. A negative SoS review! I can't remember any I've read that didn't look at things from a positive point of view.

I did think it was freaking weird that they didn't review the 8.2s, or both of them.

Aren't those Alesis monitors like $200 more?

I'm interested in these speakers!

Deepwater, could you PM me the info?

Can't wait for the info.

Thanks so much!

Deepwater... I am also interested in these speakers,if I read the info right, if I get the 8.2actives...I can just hook up my sound card outs to the speakers ?
Also...I was wondering what You charge for them , shipped to 59801 , Montana. Thanks for Your Time and Effort , Stephen

Using Headphones with Wharfedales

Ok, this may seem like a goofy question - I am considering buying the Wharfedale Pro 8.2A actives. My setup is simple: Audiophile 2496 Card, right now going to an old (circa 1987) Pioneer receiver/amp. I use headphones from the amp, to record vocals as I listen to the output of the audio card.
If I get the wharfedale ACTIVES, the output of the card would go right into the Wharfdales. I assume that means that I would not be able to use the headphones, since I don't see that the Wharfedale's have any jacks for output to anything. This would be a big problem, as I would be constantly moving the sound card's output from the monitors to the current amp(when recording).
Should I get the 8.2 passives, though the amp is old? I would then be able to use the headphones. The Amp is a Pioneer SA-390, 170Watts. If I use that amp, it uses plain speaker wires. Are there cables have have plain speaker wire ends going to XLR or some other jack on the other end?

Thank you all for any advice on this!

Deepwater , First , Thank You for the PM !

I use two monitors in my set up,and from what I read in the manual online...these speakers can be placed in close proximity to my monitors, my question is this , how close ? , within inches? I ask because of space limitations.

Thanks Again , Stephen

Good point - I meant that it wasn't as positive as they normally are. For my money the Alesis are truly horrible monitors - they almost made me give up, (which would have been a blessing for MP3 Clinic visitors). Now I'm using the original passive hi fi 8.2's, with yellow cones, (with an InterM R150 reference Amp) and they were a revelation in comparison, I wonder if upgrading the amp would make another big difference?

Garry - that's cool, so they really are/were a Yorkshire company? I'm definitely buying a pair now as soon as I can scrape the funds together. I keep buying stuff by accident when I mean to be saving for other stuff. I mean - a pair of brand new Sennheiser HD280s plus brand new Shure E2Cs for £100 was too good to pass up, right????

I would try and keep about 4-6 inches with any monitor from your monitor. Its hard to say.

I have mine about an inch or even less from my CRT monitor. The speakers have no disruption or anything but the monitor goes slightly wavy at the side. Nothing too drastic. 2 inches or so an you will not see any interferance or anything like that.

Dave

I was thinking more about the interference to the speakers than the screen ... ?

Deepwater,

I am in for a pair and PM'd you.

I can't wait to get rid of my Alesis Mk1's
