One important thing to keep in mind - Only the "Pro" series are shielded.

Active or passive, if these are going on a desk near a video monitor, get the "Pro" series instead of the original Diamond series.

I'll have my Diamond Pro 8.2 actives by thursday :D

And after using an old technics stereo to do my mixing, I think I may notice a slight difference.

(That cut n paste info looks like it came from the Sound Control site, thats where I looked them over, but bought them locally)

I was able to ship a guy in New Zealand a pair cheaper than he could buy them there.

Hey that's me!

Haven't actually got my hands on them yet. Still waiting on USPS. Come on, c'mon......

Yeah that was from the SC site and the pic of the yellow coned ones they have on the site is the wrong pic...they all have black cones.

Where did you get them localy?...I'm in Glasgow.... and for cheaper?

I saw them in the Dundee branch of SC, but got them from a Hi-fi dealer in Montrose for the same price (£250)

Fed Ex delivered my 8.2 Actives from Deepwater today!

Unfortunately my studio (re)construction is going as planned... slow. So I won't be able to really check them out for at least a couple weeks - but it's reassuring to keep seeing the positive reviews. I took just one out of the box to check it out a bit before boxing it back up and setting them both aside in storage until I've a place to put them. Kinda disapointing to have a new toy and not really be able to use them right away. Ah well.

I noticed they did have a switch on the back regarding the bass response. I didn't take a long look at it or read about it at all, and i can't test it out yet of course. Anyone know what the switch is used for?

Thanks Deepwater for offering the speakers! Anyone interested in these things, I highly recommend contacting Deepwater! Great Price!

Bass Filter:

This is specifically designed to control the typical low frequency build up caused by the speakers interaction with the room/space.

Yeah, we like them :D

I recieved mine from Deepwater last Saturday. I was blown away at the build quality, they are very well constructed for a "cheap Chinese made speaker". There were no cosmetic flaws, all joints were tight, all connectors and switches well seated, etc. Beautiful finish. Cool blue LED. Nice addition is the speaker grills, which helps when the kids want to come into the studio. Magnetic shielding was excellent, which I find to be lacking is some brands. I've got a 24" Sony Triniton monitor that is notoriously sensitive to magnetic interferance. I put the Warfe's slam up next to the thing with no problems.

I auditioned the mackie 624s, Behringer 2031A and M-audio BX8s in my room, then bought the W'dale's site "unheard". I'm happy to say they were all they were made out to be, much better than the Berry's, more accurate than the BX8s (BX8 were too bass heavy for me), on par or slightly better than the Mackie 624s for 1/3 the cost (the Mackies I borrowed from another studio, so they were used but "broken in").

The 8.75" drivers in the 2031A's looks inpressive on paper, but as most of us know a well designed speaker with smaller drivers can do better than a "so-so" design using larger ones.

Keep in mind these are my "first impressions" in my own listening environment, YRMV. I was also working from memory on the Mackis, but they are still available and I could do an "A to B" comparison is anyone was really interested.

If I had a wish list, it would be an adjustable crossover frequency control or the ability to "bi-amp" the Warfe's. No big deal though, and those feature would probably raise the price by $100.

For ~$300 shipped, you can't go wrong with the Warfedale's.

I meant having two input, one for the tweeter and one for the woofer. That way, I could use my outboard crossovers the set my own crossover freq.

The 8.2 passives are biwired, for external bi-amping, like most mid market hi-fi speakers these days. (That doesn't help you much KBLair but might interest somebody.) Apparently it's better to run all 4 cables to each box even if you only have one amp - can't figure that out myself, although I did it just in case. 2 from each +ve and -ve post on the amp. Anybody know why that's better?

Unless they have an external switch to go from bi-wired to single-wired, the driver that you didn't wire up would not be playing.

The manual should explain this???

When the warranty expires on my 8.2As I will probably open them up and see about modding for bi-wire (I have a tendancy to do that). If they are truely bi-amped internally, then it should be simple to bypass the internal crossover and add another input.

Not so much a switch, if you don't biwire there are metal plates to connect the unwired speaker posts. Interestlingly Ijust upgraded my hi-fi speakers and there are very few decent ones that don't cater for biwiring.

I Am Extremely Interested In Buying These As My First Pair Of Monitors.....so How Exactly Would I Connect These To A Computer?

You would come out of your soundcard to the inputs of the of the speakers if you buy the active ones. The M-audio 2496 is a nice card for the money. Its done pre much the same way as coming out the main outputs of a mixer to your speakers.

what about Yorkville YSM1P

Been using NS10s with a Samson Resolv120 sub and have been satisfied. Unfortunately the Yamaha's are loaners and I must either buy them and the Hafler amp that came with them or return them. I feel that I can probably buy some powered monitors for less than this guy is gonna want for his NS10's and amp. I would like to get something that has a flatter response. Plus I dread having to find replacement NS10 woofers if I ever had to. I went to GC and checked out KRK Rockit 5 and 8, Alesis M1 actives, Event TR6 and a few others. Wasn't happy with anything I heard there. Based on reviews I've read here and elsewhere, I'm pretty much sold on buying the Diamond Pro 8.2A's from deepwater. The only other consideration at this point are the Yorkville YSM1P's. Read lots of good reviews but haven't had a chance to audition either of these in person. The YSM1P's are a little more money ($430 pair). These will be used with the Samson sub in a small rap/hip-hop project studio. Anyone care to share experience or opinions? thanks

I also have that same question, since for a long time I have been reading reviews about how the YSM1 series is the best thing under *insert X amount of $$ here*... So I've pretty much been set on (someday) making the YSM1P's my first pair of actual reference monitors. But now after reading these reviews about the Wharfedales, the thought of being able to get something even better at almost half the price is more than I can stand!!!! Dang, I wish I had the money for these!!

All Wharfedales have a full 5 year warranty too. You can't get that from KRK, Mackie, and the others.
