*ack* what's this????

someone who liked this one better than the first song???

there's that whole "musical taste" thing rearing its ugly head again... :D :D

actually... in a way I kinda like this one a little better than the first one too.. I'm not hip on either of em.. but I like the whole "soft acoustic with intimate vocals" type of stuff (sometimes), so I'm more partial to the refrain at the end of this song. (is that a refrain...?? what is a refrain anyway..?? :p ) But.. I think when they are "done up" for the CD, they'll both be fairly decent. We just had a rehearsal tonight for the CD... some of the stuff is soundin' pretty good.

wait a second... I just got your email..

you liked the acoustic sound???

*gasp* will the shockers never end..?? :D

Well... all I did was take my trusty SM58.. screw the windsreen cap off, and point it at my sound hole from the left. (aboot 3 inches away).. I ran that into channel 1 of my mixer. Then I ran the pezio pickup from the git into channel 2 of my mixer and blended them until I got a somewhat satisfactory sound... then I run that into one track on my software. See.. if I just use the mic.. it sounds like it's in another room or something... and if I just use the pick-up.. it sounds like I'm playing on plastic strings... so if I use both and blend em, I can get a somewhat tolerable sound..

but just you wait till I get my new mic... :D

that's gonna be the stuff, right there...

:p

WATYF

Ah, so you mixed the two. Okay, now I'm seeing it.

Now I know what I'll need to do in the future. I usually just mic real close, and sometimes double track to get a fuller sound on my acoustic. I'll try this technique in the future.

Ya, I really dug this song and I really liked the sound of your guitar. I don't know if I'm the only one, but somehow it worked for me.

Anyway, thanks for your reply!

Actually.. I don't know that I'd recommend that technique. I had a problem with phasing and I posted a thread aboot it in the Recording Techniques forum and they said that my mic/pick-up blending might be the cause of it... you can try it though... it might work great for you... and at least you'll improve the sound a little.

stop ramping up you post count go to bed "a" ... :D lol

on that recording of the guitar. it's not a bad idea to blend the two sounds if it gives you the sound you want. Your problem was you recorded them on one track at the same time. I f you go to different tracks you will not have phasing and blend the sounds as you mix.

cheers

good idea... I may try that next time...

or...

I could just buy new gear!!!

:D :D :D

Hhhhhmmmm.. what to do.... what to dooo..... :p

P.S. (only 15 more posts to go...!!)

I like the song and I really like your voice. Pretty melody, and well sung. Good use if instruments as well.

The phasing on the vocals is a bit distracting. I'd work on fixing that if you could. I also noticed a couple of small pops at 3:55 - 3:57.

Real pretty song. Well written.

Yeah. What's up with those pops??? I use n-Track (24-bit) and a Delta 44. I get a great signal and sound etc. etc. So I know it's not my gear. But get this...

they move..

The last mixdown I did... the pops were around 3:18... I was sittin' there in n-Track playin the song through and I heard that little pop happen... so I replayed that segment a couple times... after aboot the fifth time playing it over, the pop stopped....???? It's definitely not something in the waveform.. it has to be software related or something... Cause it'll totally go away.. and then the next time I open n-Track to re-mix or make some small change.. I notice a little "pop" in a totally different area.

I also sometimes get this annoying loud pop that happens at the beginning of the song... and the bad thing is,.. I can't tell if it's gonna happen until I'm done mixing it down and converting it to mp3.. Here's the deal... sometimes... only sometimes when I first hit play there's this *pop* that happens.. BUT.. if I hit play and stop, and play and stop a few times.. it doesn't happen after a while. I finally figured that out as a way of getting "around" the problem.. so now before I do a mix down, I just hit play/stop a few times to "clear out" the pops.. and I haven't had the pop show up in my mixdown since I started doing that.

It's pretty of annoying.. especially since both problems are unpredictable and sometimes show up but sometimes don't... maybe I'll post something aboot this in the n-Track forum.

oh yeah.. and thanks for the comments on the song.. :D

Hi again WATYF! What does that name mean? (I hope it's not something I should know :))

You definately have the songwriting thingy down. Great worship song! I'll give ya my 2 cents and be totally honest with ya cause I know that helps more than blowing smoke at ya :o

Your voice to me is like a cross between Arron Nevil and Dave Matthews (and thats a compliment!) but if you could put a little more Dave and less Arron in your style that would be a good thing. If that was a chorus on your voice or flange (I didnt read every post) I would take it out (I did read the one about your inside joke with your brother though--he's right  )

I can't wait to hear these songs again when you re-record them with the new mic :)!! I like the sm58's and 57's but for some reason I think Bono's the only one that can get away with singing vocs thru it. And guitars, you'll never get that good string sound on that beautiful Taylor with an sm58...

I LIKED that dreamy guitar in the background, probly would take a little delay out, just a touch, but keep it!

Great tune man, no complaints here. Whens the CD due, I may buy one!

good to see

another top dog tune. The vocal is great! and for me the best part of the song. I think the acoustic sounds pretty good. Anyway, I`m can`t comment on the mix because i aint that hot yet. I`ll give you my opinion though. Keep then coming, yes indeedee

Very nice tune WATYF. I think your singing is very good, kind of reminds me of Ben Harper, who sort of sounds like Cat Stevens. I suppose all you need to improve this would be a buttload of gear! :p :D (As far as a plugin compressor goes, I think the Waves Renaissance compressor is pretty good. )

Great job,

Macle
