Hey guys I was playing around in my studio last night (see earlier pic) and I discovered this really cool effect.
We were setting up a drumkit for recording, and there just happened to be some sends on the channels being used for the drum mics going to a reverb unit — and the reverb's returns just happened to be patched into two channels that just happened to have some noise gates strapped across them!
So when the drummer hit a drum it made this amazing whooshing drum sound!
I’ve called it:
“Reverbed gating”
Feel free to use this new technique but please credit it to me.
