:) Today it seems that in the hip hop genre the "Talkbox" sound is very popular.

I was wondering what effect/hardware whatever.... they used to make this and how to replicate it as close as possible. (Refer to T Pain - I'm Sprung)

I do have Orange Vocoder VST plugin (but on any track it sounds very muddy and not very professional"

So can anyone help me out? What’s the best hardware/software that will allow me to achieve such clarity but the robotic effect?

You should be able to get excellent results with the Orange Vocoder (It is one of the best software units available). Try using a different carrier signal. Darker pad type sounding carriers can often muddy up a sound. Try creating some airy pads (with your synth of choice) and running them through a ring Modulator (in your audio app of choice), and using the resulting files as a carrier. Experiment, it may take you a while but you have the power at finger tips already. Also try EQ'ing the vocal pre and post vocoder (The pre EQ will remove the frequencies that are muddying the signal, the post EQ will shape the final sound for ya'). Another cool little trick is to put an envelope follower (set to trigger a filter), after the vocoded-signal (Or before it, why not?).

Im not too handy with vocoders, but using auto-tune gives that T-Pain sound. Set the retune speed to about 5 and adjust the tracking speed to your taste (i had to learn this the hard way recently -- i sang the same 4 bars for like 5 hours when all i needed to do was set the speed to a higher value!) Hope this helps.
