Hello,
I have a power user PC with a Creative Lab Live! card.
I am totally new to all the audio stuff. For starters, I would like to record an audio track made of several songs linked together, so it sounds like a continuum. Sources are CD tracks that I already have on my hard drive.

I looked at the software and controls that come with the Live! card, and I see the mixer, but I do not find any functionality to allow me to pull 3-4 sound tracks (WAV, from CDs) together, and then edit them so to stop each one where I choose.

I think I need some software to be able to do that, but before I spend endless nights brousing the net trying to learn the ropes, I figured somebody out there could point me to the right direction and save me a lot of time.

Thank you in advance,

Lenade

Dude there are a ton of programs that you can download. The first one that comes to mind is adobe audition. Most only let you have them for a month or so but they let you do almost the same thig as if you purchased it. Its simple. Its on the adobe web site

the first program i ever messed with, and continue to use to this day is cool edit pro 2... i believe adobe owns it now, (adobe audition is the new name i think as someone said earlier). you can just drag and drop your waveforms into the multitrack editor and "move" them left to right until they line up to how you'd like them to sound...
