That's weird. Try right clicking in that area and you should get the options I mentioned: "Peak and RMS", "Peak only", or "RMS only". I think there's also an option to put "Peak" or "RMS" on top or at the bottom.

OK, I think I remember what you have to do to get the meters to give you the same type of numbers I'm getting. When you right click and choose "Peak and RMS", you then have to set the "Display off-set" to 0.0db. I'm pretty sure you'll then get the same metering I was getting.

My only real nit anymore is the length of the song. It's about 5 minutes long and doesn't have any breaks. At least not up to the point where I stopped listening... around the 3.5 minute mark.

I agree, Chili, the song is too long. To have a song that length you need to stuff going on, like build ups, modulations, etc, but since i thought it was only about the mix i didn't bring that up

Performance and song all sound good Trip, and great lyrics as always.

I don't think the length of the song is an issue - it's just that that chugging rhythm part gets a bit fatiguing over the duration without much variation. I wonder whether you could change it up a bit - like maybe some ringing chords in place of the regular rhythm in say the verse after the solo would help?

Sorry I've been AWOL for a couple of days. Thanks for the responses.

RAMI - I'm at work, but I'll check that "Display Offset" switch when I get home tonight. I don't remember seeing it, but I could have easily overlooked it. Thanks.

Yeah, you'll see it when you right-click in the master fader area. I moved it to the middle of the screen, but this is what it looks like.

Sorry I didn't pick up on this earlier. I've been busy with my own mix (and learning curve). Only heard mix 4 and the guitars are fairly dominant. Wonder how loud they were in #1...:)
Great performances. Nice lyric. Good tones. All the makings of something great...but, there's little to keep the attention. It starts and runs with pretty much the same rhythms all the way through to the end.
Like the vocal a lot! Good vocal tone (and attitude...very important in this type of music). The one solo you had sounded pretty good. Maybe a few riffs through the rest of the song...
Sorry if some (or all) of this has already been mentioned.

Funny, when I first heard the intro, I thought the secret code was going to be one way or another...:D That rhythm is very Blondie-esque.

RAMI - I remember that dialog box and the dropdowns now. I didn't pay attention. I'll be that's it.

Broken - I think the constant rhythm/cadence is just going to have to stay what it is. I know several people mentioned it. But I like it. And yeah, I took the rhythm from One Way Or Another from Blondie.

Wow, I must have the worst ears in the joint because I A/B'd Mix 1 and Mix 4 section by section and heard no difference whatsoever besides the addition of the accent guitar. Those are good and well-performed, but imo could even come up a little for some snarl.

One thing that I'm hearing on my end is that the crash and ride cymbals during the chorus decay really quickly, almost as if they're compressed or gated. Your OHs aren't terrifically loud so it took me a couple listens to hear that.

Hey fat fleet...

The other difference between #1 and #4 is the level of the guitar. I can't remember exactly, but the crunch guitar is maybe 4-5dbs lower by #4.

The only effect on the OH's is EQ. I took out quite a bit of high end. Like 3dbs above 8K or something. That's quite a bit over that wide of a range. That might be why they seem soft. But the decay you're hearing is natural.

Oh and RAMI - I set my meters in Reaper to the same as what you have. And the mix, by those meters, is just a bit louder than -10dbfs It's like -9.7dbfs or so. Pretty much like you had. But RMS Buddy says -12. I don't know which is right. But that's why we had different readings.

Great, I'm glad you got that sorted. I'm almost positive that those REAPER meters are closer to the truth. Your song is loud, and I'm pretty sure it's up in the -9 range, not -12. I'm no expert and I don't know what would make one meter read something different than another meter. Someone like Ashcat would know. He might give you a 15 paragraph answer, but he does know his technical shit as well as, if not better than, anyone else here.

I listened to mix 4.

Things seem a bit dry to me. Maybe some/more fx on the vocals wouldn't hurt. Chorus background vox sound really good. Things seem pretty well balanced, I might bring down the rhythm guitars a bit. Nice solo!

I unearthed this one because I've listened to it a few times the last week and never commented.

It's a really fun tune. I thought the vocals (particularly the harmonies in the chorus) were well executed along with the drums. I thought the solo was good. It exceeded expectations.

The sameness of the rhythm guitar and bass throughout was mildly disappointing, but then I would have just filled up the space with random noise, whereas you go for a more sparse and dry arrangement. It is so not how I do things, yet I am drawn to it somehow...must be the melodies and the overall attitude I get from your songs.

I really got caught up in it when the layered vocals started to kick in, but I just longed for some change in the tone or something with that rhythm guitar part.

Thanks for posting this.
