Update final...and d'oh...

Well I tracked it down but am still stumped but thankfully it's nothing to do with the deck. It seems that when I have Sonar sending my stems out through my Konnekt48 everything seems fine. Drums/bass-out 5-6, pads 7-8, guitars 9-10, vox 11-12. It's this way because outs 1-4 are system speaker outs and only 1-2 are into my monitor control. No prob. So when I play the song I confirmed all the line outs are playing their designated parts. All buses routed same, I even checked with headphones on the individual outs. Only the designated outs are getting to the TSR-8. Hit record, all is well. On playback, all the parts are recorded fine BUT the WHOLE MIX is on track 1-2 as well. This was my phase issue. There's a loopback happening somewhere and I can't find it. I'm going to try putting the drum/bass on the same out bus as the pads to tracks 3-4 to see if I can track it down...d'oh...I should know better

Edit: Yeah, that was it, deep in the Konnekt output setup line outs 5-6 was set to Main Mix instead of physical line-outs like all the rest of the line outputs. D'oh. All good and sounds better with the new tape and demagging and cleaning as well.
Thanks everybody for their help...

Cool, I'm glad it's working out. When you get a few songs you should post it in the, Post Your Analog Recordings Here... thread.

Well, since you asked...I'll post a link here http://michaelsong.ca it's my digital download site but I'm going to revamp it later this weekend. In any case there's a flash player that you can listen to my songs on. Off To War and Once Alive from my 1st CD were recorded to 2" tape. My latest 2 songs I Love and Jive were recorded to DAW then stemmed out to my TSR-8, summed back in and mastered in Sonar. I have a song on the first CD called Attention I did this with as well. My latest song called My Mirror is just a DAW mix, this whole thread is why it's not "analog" yet. It's the one I was trying to stem out. Turns out I reloaded some default mixer setting that goofed up the outs on the first line-out pair. I'll redo it through the TSR-8 later this week, but the current mix is basically just to have it finished.
Cheers...

Nice work!

MAN those kinds of problems can really turn your head around, huh? Glad its not the TSR-8.

BTW, Alabama good in the vast majority of instances. They moved from Cali to Alabama and IIRC it is only very limited quantities of Cali stock that got stamped Alabama. You should be good but AFAIK it is always best to proceed with caution on old tape, yes?

Absolutely, I've got 2 reels of 456 and one of GP9 that shed noticeably. What I did to test is put them on and hit play with some white paper under the heads. If it's shedding, you'll know quick, besides having dirty heads... I've got another 4 reels that are "good", ie no shed or the odd small flake every so often (and I mean speck small) with good transport, no binding. I just don't know what to do with the shedding ones. I could bake them but is it worth it? Should I just chuck the tape and keep the reels?

If I understand correctly, and others would be a better authority, but baking is for temporary cure of sticky shed. If they are flaking there isn't really anything you can do. If it were me I'd be chucking the tape and keeping the reels...analog tape could be useful for halloween decorations...:D

Yeah, that's my understanding as well, just temporary. Oh well, I've got a few good reels and RMGI is around if I need new tape so all is good.
Cheers.
