thumb drive

Hello to all that have helped me. I did what you guys told me to do in dragging a ptf file from the thumb drive to the C drive on another computer to get it to open up. Here is the new problem. The system at the studio is loaded with Pro Tools HD 7 and I have pro tools le 7. The error that i am getting now is: "this session was saved with the following playback engine: MBOX 2. This playback engine is not available with current hardware"

What do I do?
 
Yes, it gives me the option to open anyway...However, none of the waveforms or I guess session data appears. Therefore, there is no sound. I am jsut wondering should I give it longer to open up.

is there absolutely no regions at all?? or are there just blank regions in the session.
if the latter, then go to Windows-->Task Window and you can watch it try and relink your audio. It should be able to do it automatically by searching your computer...however, you may have to manually relink it to tell PT where all your audio files are. It's probably confused because you've transferred it to so many different drives.
 
did u drag the audio files from the session onto the thumb drive?
 
I think I know what's going on. Did you just bring the session file to another computer, but leave the Audio Files folder behind?

Pro Tools session files do not contain the audio for your session. They contain regions, which are just pointers to the original audio file. Pro Tools needs to have the audio files somewhere on the computer to be able to play them.

So how do I bring the audio files to the thumb drive also. Am I saying that right? I simply did a save as .ptf. Where would I find the audio files? forgive me if that is a dumb question. Thank you all for helping out a confused US Army G.I.

not at all a dumb question.
When you create a Pro Tools session (.pts file) it also creates an audio and a fade files folder for you. All of these are stored in one main folder along with your .pts file. All session information as to where things are located, plugins, automation, etc. are all saved with the session file itself. The audio files you record/create are in the audio files folder.
You can drag the entire folder (which contains both folders and the session) onto your thumb drive. You will, however, probably get a disc allocation error doing that....not a big deal. PT will reallocate the files with the session.

Wilco....That means will comply..army talk. Once again, you are the man. As soon as I get home, I will drag the audio files onto the thumb drive also. Then I am going to take it up to the school to see if Pro Tools HD will open it up. Hopefully, I will be able to let you hear some of my work one day.
 
Once you have the audio files folder, you should have no problems.

The only things you should have to do is change the I/O setup when you get on the HD system since the session was saved on an MBox, and re-assign your inputs/outputs.

I am going to change my I/O to Pro Tools HD instead of the MBOX2? Will I have to do that before I open up the file of of the thumb drive or afterwards?
 
You'll do it when you open up your session on the HD system. The studio might have a default I/O setting you can load. Do they have a tech engineer/assistant that could help you?

There is a tech onhand. He is a great guy but still a little shaky. I will hit him up and see if he can help me with the I/O assignements. Thanks for everything.
 
as long as your outputs on the HD unit are 1-2 you shouldn't really have any problems. PT will just warn you that the session was saved with a different I/O setup, so if you have any problems you'll need to look in the I/O setup window. The outputs of your track should still say 1-2 and will probably conform to what the studio is using.

If you do have problems, usually all you'll need to do it go to Setups-->I/O setup-->Outputs...then do a CTRL+A to select everything (Apple+A on mac ?) and choose Delete Path. Then click Default and PT will assign all the default outputs.
You might even be able to import settings if they have a setting saved for that studio. But mostly everyone uses main outs 1/2 on their units, unless you are running surround sound or something.
Most of the times the problems happen when going from an HD studio to an LE setup...because of the amount of busses and outputs

OK,
I dragged the audio files folder over to the thumb drive. When I opened up the session in Pro Tools HD, it started to look for and found the Audio files. However, the only files that it linked were the vocals. It would not bring over the music. Is it because I sampled the music?
