here is my setup:
MIC(xlr)--->acoustic preamp(1/4")--->tascam 414(1/4" to 1/8" y adaptor)--->line in on back of pc

i can get mic'd sounds from my pc speakers,
but i am brand new to vegas......
the manual tutorial seems to be about working with existing sound files...

forgive the stupidity of the following question:

how do i get real world sounds into vegas?!?!

lol

1.) Open Vegas
2.) Create a new track
3.) Arm the track to record
4.) Make some noise - do you see the level meter in vegas move?
5.) If yes, press the large RECORD button. If no skip to #7
6.) Rock out.
7.) Go to CONTROL PANEL
8.) Click on SOUNDS (in Win2k or XP) or MULTIMEDIA (in Win98)
9.) Adjust your LINE IN INPUT levels. Be sure they're not muted.
10.) Start over at number one.

If this doesn't work, tell us your soundcard, computer, wich version of windoze you have.

By default, Vegas will try to record through the first soundcard it finds but you may have to click a setting or two. Can you drag a wav file or mp3 into vegas and play it back??
