Lol. From the website....

"New instrument input can handle the hottest pickup
Many Scarlett users are musicians, and in designing the new generation of Scarlett interfaces we paid special attention to the instrument input. This has its own unbalanced path, which maximises the headroom. In addition, the supply voltages have been increased to the instrument input circuitry, and the high impedance input buffer (a high input impedance preserves the top end of the sound of a guitar) has been reconfigured. Combined, these factors have added a significant additional 8dB of headroom to the instrument input. At the same time, the widely-praised clean, natural sound of the Scarlett mic preamp is unchanged."

Uh, yeah.

So J, with the switch switched to instrument, and the gain turned all the way down on the interface, it clips, right?

They just released a new revision of the 2i2, and the input gain structure was one of the things that they "fixed". I think that they gave it more headroom, and more gain as well. I wonder if their website is updated for the new revision?

*edit* Re-reading your quote from the website, they are indeed talking about the 2nd generation of 2i2. I think that the easy-to-clip DI was a nag on the 1st generation of 2i2.

I wonder if there's such a thing as an inline pad for a 1/4" instrument cable? All of the ones I see are for XLR cables.

Haha. That's quite funny. Yeah. I had it all the way down when I did those tracks for you and miner on Sunday... And it doesn't clip on the old TonePort.

It's a hot pickup but it's not crazy modern or active or anything like that.

So your JB does not clip the toneport, which is truly designed for direct recording. And you ibanez shred wank guitar does not clip either interface?

I just find it very odd that you'd clip the 2i2. Your JB is a hot pickup, but I don't think it's so hot that it should clip. I've recorded 500Ts and Invaders direct and they don't clip my instrument inputs. Other JBs I've recorded have not clipped my inputs.

Yeah, that's right. Odd isn't it. Anyone else with a focusrite know if they're prone to clipping with DI? I'm not that hard a picker either.

The ibanez was coming close though, up to about -4 and I still had the gain right down. I couldn't find a spec for an Ibanez V8 so don't know what its output actually is

See my post above. It's a known thing that they addressed with the new 2nd gen of 2i2. Maybe a DI box would be of use in your case? Something that can handle your pickup's output, and plug into a line input on your interface?

But that seems roughly normal to me. A pickup could hit up to around -4 on the meters with everything at unity.

Ah, cheers, tad. I'm not that bothered cos I very rarely DI my guitar. It's just a weird thing I noticed on Sunday evening cos Greg and Miner we reamping for me.

When I bought my KA6 interface, those Scarlett models were on my list, but after reading up on 'em a lot of people were complaining about the clipping, so I scratched it...

If you're going straight into your amp, it's not an issue, but I record my di's along with the amp'd tracks, so it would be an issue for me...

Hooray! Well scratch interface off my list. I linked my old abandoned Firepod to the US-1800 so that gives me 6 more inputs.

I'm gonna mic one speaker with 14 mics!

My bandmates and I put all of our Les Pauls together for a pic to throw in the faces of other local bands.

Haha nice man! Looks like some sort of police lineup. "Sir, do you recognize the guitar that stole your daughter and forced her to date a guy with a black leather jacket?"

Jeez, that pic really does illustrate how nasty the Classic's faux-aged inlays look. Makes me a little embarrassed about how mine must look.

Nice man, what's up with the inlays on the classic (w/mopar sticker on pickguard)??? They actually look almost neon yellow in the pic compared to all the others...

The one to the right of your clown burst custom is pretty cool. The neck looks vintage. Is it a refinished old Les Paul?

If you need to trim down the heard just send me the clown burst custom.
