Sorry to hear about all the hot weather down there Texans. My bro in law from Katy, was just up here for a few days and he was loving the cool, dry temps. Regaling us with tales of ridiculous hot storys of what summers are supposed to be all about. None of this cockamamie fall leaf color change and morning dew in the beginning of August. Bullshit.

Renos's are done, money reserves are depleted as a result, family visits and vacation are just about done. time to get back in my basement and spend some quality time with noise. I also missed the boat on a 40 Watt Blackstar combo my local shop got on consginment. 450 bucks. That would be like, 20 USD HAHAHA. Not really. But it's bloody cheap. Just couldn't swing it at the moment.

Hallelujah - post like that more often

It's been raining every afternoon since I made that post. :D

This is normal summertime rain. Crazy clouds, rolling thunder, devil beating his wife, nuclear orange sunsets. Summertime on the gulf coast.

Haha, well post up some tonez. :D

lol ..... yep.
Everytime I see one of those Silvertones with someone raving about it I immediately know he doesn't know squat about tone.
Haha. Really? That's a pretty bold assumptive statement. I have one of those silvertone 2 12s. It's a great amp and i know a little about tone. :-)
They do have to be properly serviced, and there are some shit examples out there, but in good shape they are great.

It has been sunny, VERY windy and bloody cold in Eastern Australia this past fortnight. In the Blue Mountains, about 60km from Sydney, it snowed one day and there was a bush fire four days later!!!
Gale force winds in my area so I had to take the bus to work and back 3 days in the last week because it was too blowy for motorcycling.
My "lawn" is just a circle in the back yard around the Hills Hoist so I have a simple electric mower to trim it - has to be regularly though.
The rest of the yard - front & back is covered with a native "Violet". It is excellent ground cover, can be mown if needed but just continues to look lush & green with little mauve/violet flowers every so often. Snakes like it because they can crawl around under it as it settles at about 5cm and I found an eastern brown in amongst it a year ago - one of the MOST venomous in our venomous country BUT if it means I don't have to mow then I'll take the risk.

I'll trade you some heat for some cold!

nah ..... terrible amp.
I've played thru quite a few and have owned them ....... they do have a particular sound and if you want a clangy old style dept. store amp sound they're great.
But a very much one trick pony.

However ..... this is the tone thread and I'm open to being convinced.
Post some tones of it sounding great and I'll eat my words.
But I've owned and gigged with more amps than just about anyone on Earth which is why I can make a bold assumptive statement ..... somewhere around 15,000 gigs and hundreds of amps.

I go by my experience which is extensive.

Like I say ..... I don't have a closed mind ..... post some clips of it sounding great and I'll say I was wrong and start looking for one.

I dont doubt your experience, and I'm not here to try to prove you wrong or convert you.
I myself do have some experience. Ive been making a full time living since 1980 in the music biz. I dont have the gigging experience you do. But have been around guitars and amps every day of my life since 80. I've owned a bunch of stuff too.

I get you dont dig em. Thats cool. I just took issue with the dismissal of anyone who liked them.
Thats all. :-)

Fair enough ..... and I get your point.
my comment was more of what courts call 'puffery' where you make an extreme statement that's not really meant to be taken as literal and in fairness I guess I'll have to retract it.
It's certainly possible that someone could love them AND be knowledgeable about tone.

I made a general statement and that's never fair or accurate since there are always exceptions to anything.
So I certainly didn't mean to disparage you in anyway and I appreciate your reasonable response. I'll try and choose my words more carefully.

I too have been involved with amps and gits every day of my career and have also been fulltime in the music biz with no other jobs.
In my case it goes back to '69 when I graduated high school and went full time playing 7 nights a week for the next 40 years.

So I go back farther than you but otherwise you and I are much alike and do the same thing.
You live in Florida right? I moved to Florida from Louisiana after katrina so maybe we'll run into each other.

As for the amp ...... the Silvertone twin twelve (1484) was basically a Fender Bassman with cheaper parts .. disc caps instead of orange drops .... that sort of thing.
I have heard many people rave about them but I've played thru enough of them that I've always dismissed them .... but I would truly be interested in hearing what a good one sounds like.

Contrary to my earlier general statement, I do recognize that amps can be all over the place so if you get a chance ..... I'd love to hear yours.

That's what the tone thread is all about! :)

I've heard several Silvertones that I liked. I don't remember the numbers, but it seems like they were 14xx. Separate head and cab, 2x12, tube. They were one trick ponies, but it's a trick I want performed. I like the dirty boogie sound. On the clean side, it would be old John Lee Hooker.

Lt. Bob plays out several nights a week, mostly solo, and has for decades. He generally needs amps that can do it all or at least many things well. I'm just me at home alone, and I only have a very few sounds I'm looking for, so I can have a few amps to fill those singular needs. I don't have to lug them anywhere.

I wanna hear my Gold Top through a Silvertone into Greenbacks and Alnico Blues!

Okay, bad color joke. :(

that would be an Emminence redcoat.
I've always been a bit curious about that speaker.

Me too. It's Eminence's answer to the "british" sound.

But being a Saints fan and hating the Atlanta Falcons, I try to avoid anything red. :D

Lt bob.

In all fairness i recapped mine and installed orange drops. :-)
The cabinet is cheap as hell, kind of just a chipboard.
one speaker fried and i have one stock and one eminence in the there..

The reverb is cheesy as all hell, and the tremelo is very unigue. Useable, but a bit different. I kind of like it.

Mine is very vintage fendery sounding but a bit darker, cleaner, with not so much top end shimmer.

Usually I'll link the two channels together for a bit more grit.

Would i use it as a sole stage amp? No.

For any live use, which I dont do anymore, I have my trusty JCM 800 Marshall that Mike Soldano converted to a 2 channel.
In the early days he did a lot of custom amp work, and i helped him get some amps sold. It covers all bases for me.

As to working in this crazy world, I admire anyone making a living in any aspect in music. I know how tough it can be, so my hat is off to you.

Maybe I'll do a clip at some point, but not for the purpose of proving anything.

Ive had a lot of amps, and still do. Thay all have their own personality and love them all.
:-)

Shut up and do it then! :D

This thread is a non-judgmental celebration of guitar tone.

But fuck a silvertone, I'd like to hear that JCM 800. :D

Haha I will. Just gotta get hip to technology. Im on a phone. Got no idea how to upload anything on a phone.

Ill figure it all out, and youll hear it:-)

You don't record? You don't have a way to record a guitar clip?

All tape. Mixed to dat. My biggest obstacle is getting my stuff into a computer. Before joining this forum never had a need.

So you can write me off for now till I get some interface to transfer stuff to my laptop.
My soundcard sounds like ass.
