Ray ..... I like the clip with just the senn better.
kinda sounds like there's a phase thing with the two mics and a buncha mids go away .... regardless of the reason I way prefer the 1st clip

Sounds good Minerman.
You have sooo many cool toys now. Start posting SONGS!!!!

Folks, may I have your ears & opinions?
I recorded another guitar track to my new ditty as I was attempting to address the "dark" nature of the recording.
I substituted a Sennheiser mic E60 something for the l'Grange mic.
There are two versions below.
One has the senn mic track straight up the middle of the previous version.

The 2nd has the Senn & the 57 (i recorded both) blended & on the right replacing a previous guitar track.

The mic was set up directly in front of the cone.
Does it add the necessary brightness?
Is it even necessary?
Does it improve the overall sound?
I prefer the first version, mate. The song makes me want to go longboarding.

Ray: I like the first clip better dude, it's like it has more clarity to me....The 2-mic clip sounds good, maybe try to play with the blend a little more if you're wanting more high end, raise the level of the bright mic a little more...Both sound good, but again, I prefer the 1st clip....

And yes, I've got some cool toys now....Really happy with all of 'em, but GAS has struck again, I'm gonna buy a electronic drum kit in the next couple/few weeks...the one I've picked out won't be in stock until the 25th of this month, but that's ok, I'll still get it eventually...

JDOD: Sounds pretty good man, but I think if you raise the bass' level in the mix, it'd help the guitars sound more full...I know a great guitar tone sits well in a mix really easy, but the bass helps it along too dude....

And, I'm boxing some of my stuff up, moving it to the new place this weekend....It'll probably take me a few days to get it all there/set up, but should be settled before long....I wish I'd gotten this deal during one of my mini-vacations, as I'd already been living there & settled in, but, as usual, wasn't in the cards for me at the time....That's ok though, hopefully by next weekend, I'll have most of it moved & set up....I hate moving...lol

Hello Folks,
Thanks for the recent feedback gents.
I've read, then listened, then tweaked a little based on your thoughts.
Here's my track again it's the version with the 57 and Senn on the right BUT I've found and adjusted the phase issue.

I looked at my set up and saw that I'd inadvertently kicked the 57 back a little from the grill cloth. The Senn is right up against i. I went DEEEEP into the wave form and saw that they didn't line up so slid the lagging one forward to match the other.
It probably won't vchange your mind but I thought it best to present the arrangement in the best light available.
So far the hands are up for the original track with bass tightener, then hands up for that same track with the Senn up the middle.
Now, given that this track IS in phase what works best of the options?
Senn & 57 to right IN phase:

Senn up the middle:

The preferred set up prior to the Senn:

Ray, I like the 2nd clip's guitar tone better than any of the 3 you've posted today....But, I like the mix on the 3rd clip, to me, it sounds better overall, not sure what the bass tighten thing does to the mix....maybe try the 2nd clip's guitar tones with a little dash of the 3rd clip's mix...lol...The thing I like about the 3rd clip is everything seems to be more balanced, as in the first 2, the guitars are a little loud to me in the mix...But, it's all subjective from person to person, & the mix would depend on the vocals (again, subjective from person to person)...Still sounds pretty good though dude.....;).

Getting my stuff moved into the new pad....Still got quite a bit left to move, including my mixing/computer desk (which I'll have to take apart to get in/out the door...lol), but it's getting there....I did crank up the amps at the new pad today, & I'm pretty sure it's gonna be cool there....No toans to post, but, I was getting some pretty cool sounds with the DSL, Chupa, Bogner Red pedal & the Danelectro vibe....

Here's a pic of the amps at the new place:

Should be settled in & be able to record/mix in another few days to a week....If I had more time off work, I could do it a lot faster, but, I don't so, I have to do what I can when I can....

Pretty stoked about the new pad though guys!!!!!:D

Saw this video and had to laugh:

The Cort just sounds muddy and undistinguished in comparison to the Standard, which was my overall pick...
Loved the wall of amps in the background, though. :)

As long as we're posting videos:

I was listening to this from the next room (with my jaw on the floor) and my wife turned down the volume -- I asked her why she did that, and she said it sounded distorted - like she was afraid I was going to blow out speakers. I told her it was supposed to sound that way.

I guess it sounds like the pickup and the preamp in the amp are really hot - probably kind of necessary in order to make the finger style playing work through an amp, but it does sound cool.

And here i am feeling like a big deal because i added the Dm chord into my steady diet strumming. :(

Don't worry about it. I know lots of dudes that can shred their spandex off, but they can't play basic rhythms for shit.

yeah - what struck me about that video most is probably how listenable the song is - even my wife liked it. An engaging song that just happens to be ridiculously difficult to play.

My epiphany came in about 1987 - I was practicing my raking arpeggios, and I forced my ditzy GF to listen to the then current dominant shredder - she dismissively said 'sounds like van halen' - I snobbily started up with a 'no - it's just that... he... this...' trying think about whether I should start talking about technique - clearly without an attentive audience.

Then a light bulb came on. From her perspective, and probably from every other non-shred-wannabe in the world, it did kinda sound like van halen (except that it probably didn't sound as good). Haven't really looked back after that.

That's how I hear that stuff even to this day. One of my very best friends is a shredtard and he'll talk about how all those shred guys use different licks and techniques. I'm like, whatever they all sound the fucking same. Guitar music for other guitar players is a terrible concept to me.

that does nothing for me at all.
couldn't really spell out why but it doesn't despite the fact that I like some of what he's doing.
That's pretty amazing how accurately he changes notes with the tuners.
But overall it sounded like every other 'beat on the guitar for rhythm and tap a lotta cool ringing, chiming notes' acoustic player.
I get bored super quick with solo acoustic players cause everything quickly sounds the same to me.

And this:
Don't worry about it. I know lots of dudes that can shred their spandex off, but they can't play basic rhythms for shit.
I remember one night some guys from the B.R. symphony came by some gig where we were just winging it ...... all good players and good music. We invited a couple of them up to sit in on a blues tune and they couldn't do it.
It wasn't written out ..... they asked later,"How do you know where to go?"
Guys can be great in one area and suck out loud in another ....... that doesn't apply to moi of course. :laughings:

But that tone, though - the distortion sounds different - sounds like something I would associate with severe over biasing (i.e., about to catch on fire) yet sounds nice

Hey Lt Boob, you're a vinyl guy, look what I got for Christmas. :D

Cool!!

I saw that in one of my catalogs the other day and thought of you.
You got a record player? Or will you keep it in collectable shape unopened?

I don't know how collectible they are. They're modern 180 gram reissues. I have two record players. One of them is one of those turntable to USB things to transfer vinyl to digital for easy listening. It obviously murders the one good quality of vinyl, but it is what it is. I never use it because I can just download or stream whatever I want to listen to. The other one is at my mom's house in boxes. It's a Sony turntable, I think, and I've got a Technics receiver and Marantz speakers and shit. Teac cassette deck. I haven't used that stuff in forever. I don't even remember how to hook it all up. Lol. Maybe it's time to dust it off and get it all working again. I'd love to listen to these Kiss records and all my old Ramones records.
