Cool stuff Ray, reminds me of that movie "Leaving Providence", which has a great soundtrack...I grew up listening to stuff like this, guess it shows in the way I play too...

Cool Bob, keep hammerin' dude, it's gonna pay off for ya, I can feel it!!!!

I've had to re-load my computer, the power went off sometime yesterday while I was at work, & my computer wouldn't load/boot up, so I did the factory re-install thing....I almost had a panic attack, as all those songs I've been working on are on the 2nd drive...But, I opened up the tower, unplugged that drive, & went on my way....Almost got everything re-installed, I'm on the last of my drum samples as I type, should be back in business tonight after work...FWIW, I didn't install all that shit I had before either, hopefully narrowing my choices down a lot will help me get some of these songs finished up..... I've actually been needing to do this for a long time, I just didn't expect it to happen the way it did....Of course, I've got everything backed up, but I still almost shit my pants when the computer wouldn't boot up...Should run like it did when it was brand new, we'll see tonight I suppose, probably won't have time to do anything except make sure all my plug-ins & samples are there & load up....

Bad finger was a cautionary tale about the music biz.
They were so jerked around by the record companies and so dispirited about it that two of them committed suicide!

They had some good songs .......

ok back to work ..... I've been absent because I finally got a gig from some monster players that I've been courting for the last year.

Got about 50 semi-complex tunages to have ready for tomorrow night and I'm not familiar with most of them ...... a buncha originals and obscure funky songs ...... I'll get one shot at this so I gotta bring my 'A' game if I want to get the call-back in the future.

I've spent a year of showing up when I had a night off ..... playing and making them go 'wow' but they have all these players that they've known for a long time that they're gonna call first so it's been hard to get the foot in the door.

But my foot's in there now bitches!!
........ I wanna hang with the cool kids! :D

But I've had to squeeze my prep into the morning hours that I usually hit the 'puter or after gigs before I crash since I be's busy.
Anyway ..... that's where I am ..... bye.
Man that's great. Knock em dead, Boob! Good luck!

Man I know how that goes. This computer I'm using....10 years old. It's a total dinosaur, but I keep it limping along. It's crashed 3 or 4 times, but I keep nothing valuable on this thing. I kinda wanna see how far I can take it.

I got my parts for my amp overhaul. I need to go get some wire, but everything else is here. I think I understand what re-wiring I need to do and why, and I'm about ready to dive in. Fingers crossed.....

Are you running XP on that? Online machines running XP are pretty much fucked in April. Windows official end of life for the OS. No more updates and bug fixes and it's gonna be hacker virus paradise.

Off-line recording setups will be fine unless and until you buy new hardware or programs that may not run on the older OS or have drivers available.

Damn, yeah it's XP. I don't run any updates or anything anyway though. Well I guess maybe it's time to retire the ol bitch.

The biggest concern would be vulnerability to any hack type shit if you have passwords or banking type info on there. The stuff that most people have on their online machines. All you need to survive a virus is a good backup. Surviving a worm or trojan that steals yer info is potentially much more problematic.

I switched all my stuff, work and home to Win7 (about halfway through the work machines). It's solid and simple. Everything I've heard says stay the fuck away from Windows 8.

OR keep a good antivirus/malware/everything prog running. AVG seems to be holding strong for me & my XP. If I go W7 I'll have to get a new comp & I'm not keen on that option if I can avoid it.
Lt. Bob,
Wow, serious muso has to put in serious study. Pity all pick up gigs aren't like playing for Chuck Berry.
Badfinger were more late 60's and def. didn't get to stadium status.
they were blessed & cursed by celebrity endorsement:
Apple signed them & McCartney wrote a song for them - the typical Macca solo dross of If You Want It (Her It Is Come & Get It). which sold well but put a lot of people of - a bit like giving REM Coming Up as their 1st single. They weren't taken seriously afterward which is a pity - they basically put in the foundations for Power Pop but that was through albums that most folk didn't go near but lots of people who started bands did. Harrison's dealing with them was much more deft and led to some greeat tracks.
Without You was their big hit for someone else - Nilsson & Carey (I still shudder when I thing of her ululations over that song). Their version is quite good but they didn't ssustain notes or fill them with pain in the way Nilsson could. they also suffered from soe bad production/arrangements on several tracks - strings applied like lipstick etc (up front & in the red). Both songwriters commited suicide because of their poor fortune, critical mawlings and bad management amngst other things. Popular stuff for soundtracks indeed and on most tracks they know how to rock in a slightly polite way, (Power Pop is sometimes referred to as Light Rock which is as dismissive as PP but it's a difficult genre to define - Big Star & the Romantics tussling with Plimsouls, Shoes and Cheap Trick) WITH GOOD TONE.

Just got all my shit re-installed, really doesn't take long for most of it, but the drum libraries take a while...Total time (guessing that is), about 3-4 hours, but I didn't do it all at once, I didn't really have time, & wanted to have it up & running by the weekend...FWIW, I didn't install a lot of stuff, so that'll help narrow my choices down, make me buckle down & use what I've got...

So, you're still on XP Greg??? Damn man, that is a dinosaur...My pc's almost 4 years old now (next month will make 4 years I've had it...), & it still does pretty good IMO...I have no idea what cause it to fuck up, but I did have a lot of shit installed over the past year & 1/2 that I hadn't re-loaded it...I just hope what caused the problem doesn't rear it's ugly head again....Opened a couple of my current projects/songs, & it seems to be fine....fingers crossed....

On the anti-virus thing, I don't even have any installed on my pc, I just use Windows Firewall & Defender, any av I've used bogs my computer down & I need all the power I can get with the drum libraries that I use...

You could probably find a Windows 7 pc pretty cheap Greg, I'd recommend W7, I've heard bad things about W8 though, so I'd steer clear of it myself...

Off work 'til Monday...:thumbs up:

You can take a backup image of your hard drive now so you can just reinstall in one move if it all goes wrong again (Start Menu -> Getting Started -> Backup Your Files -> Create a System Image). This needs to go to a different drive, like a USB HDD, then you can use it for recovery. In the same place, you can create a startup disk to recover from the image, in case you don't have a Windows disk to boot from.

You have your audio projects backed up somewhere as well, right?!

My machine went a bit wrong and I had to reinstall everything, which was quite annoying. I did the fresh install of everything I use then straight away took an image then so I can go back to that point easily.

Absolutely man, I learned the hard way a few years ago about backing stuff up, I lost a bunch of stuff & didn't have any of it backed up....I've got a 1tb external hdd that I use for this...I keep copies of all my plug-ins on it, my projects, basically everything that'll fit, except the drum libraries, & they're on disc anyway so....

So far, so good though, I've even opened old songs/projects from a few years ago, & it seems to be running without a hiccup so far...

Yeah Ray, it's funny that a simple minded guitar player like me depends on this shit...LOL...

Spoke too soon on the re-load, while everything's running ok, I think my graphics card is going out in my pc...It just doesn't act "right", it's not bad, but just little "glitches" here/there that kinda have me concerned....Might be time to upgrade again, dunno...I sure hope not, as I paid a grand just for this tower, but, if I have to, I have to....I can say, this computer has been a very good one in the 4 years I've had it, so I've definitely got my use out of it...

Bumping our thread back up, no tones in the last while, but I'm gonna give it a shot tonight after work....I think I've got a couple songs pretty much ready for the guitar/bass tracks....I think.....LOL....

Hey Miner. Not been around much lately, hardly had any time to mess with the JCM1. I started a new job a couple of weeks ago, so getting used to being back full time. Next chance I get I'm going to have a play and record some tones. I really want to nail the mic positioning and tone for a couple of songs I've been working on for ages now. I might even try and hit Greg up for some drums for this punky little number I wrote, if he has the time and inclination :D.

I'll do em, but I'm way way behind on drums I've promised people that I just haven't gotten to yet.

In other news, I'm diving into this 2204 tomorrow. Got my parts and I'm gonna revamp this bitch to brand new spec.

My life has taken a couple of unscripted turns and I've been remiss with my home recording as well as this awesome website.
I will get back to it again, hopefully soon.

Jonny: Cool man, I'd been wondering where you were, but, I know life gets in the way of our music sometimes...I'd thought about hitting the Gerg up for a couple drum tracks/songs, but, I know that it'd ruin me (because it'd be awesome), & I really need to learn to program mine better, so I didn't...I'm almost sure he'd do it, but, again, I'm just gonna stick to my fake drums for now...I think they're improving from where they were...In another forum, the guys are blown away by my drum programming, & they'll shit their pants if I ever get this new program down (Jamstix 3) to where I can just roll with it..:D.

Greg: Cool man, be sure to post pics & instructions, as you never know when one of us boneheads might need to do something like that...

Sam: I get sidetracked all the time man, it's the story of my life, especially in the last few months ,but things are starting to settle down a little for me....

Wow, awesome, thanks man :). There's no hurry, I've got plenty of other stuff on.

That's for sure, between my new job, my 18 month old son and preparing to go back to university in September, I don't get a lot of time in the man cave. I can still buy stuff off the internet, though :D.

Well I'm underway. I've changed the three big blue can filter caps already.

The bias feed caps are next. They're the round yellow things....

Then it's putting the bright cap back in, it definitely needs to be there, re-routing some grounds, cleaning the pots and tube sockets, and possibly rewiring/replacing the input jacks. They're kind of a mess.

Cool Greg, keep us posted/updated man, like I've mentioned, this'll probably come in handy one day for one of us who know nothing about this shit....

No tones for a while man, I've been on the drum programming mission, then my computer took a shit, Jamstix is acting up on the new/fresh install/re-load, so I'm really still trying to get all that shit lined out...LOL...FWIW, I think I have found "my" kit though, it's just a shame I can't get the sounds I like out of one drum vsti, instead of using 2-3....LOL...

Keep us posted man!!!!!!!!!

Hell, I know nothing about this shit. I'm just going off the recommendations of others. I understand some of it, but not much.
