Hmmmm, I think I used a large chamber room impulse for reverb. It sounds pretty big on it's own listening back to it now, but in the mix it's not very noticeable, which is the way I like it. I really don't like hearing drum reverb unless the song is very slow and has space for it.Fast aggressive stuff is better dry to me.
I was pretty sure that's what you used, that's why I asked....I made me a 'verb template/chain out of the files you sent me ahwile back...thanks man...Again, I was pretty sure about the large chamber thing....
To be honest, the amount of 'verb on the drums surprised me, they were way more wet than I expected, but you can't hear it much in the mix....Cool stuff man...
None of the different pieces have their own reverb. They all go dry to a group track and it all gets the one reverb on the whole kit. Sometimes I'll leave the overheads out of the group track so they get no reverb. But that's only sometimes. Other than that, it's all pretty basic. One kick track, one snare track, 4 tom tracks, 2 overheads. Each piece gets a little EQ help. Kick and snare each get their own compression. Toms sometimes get gated. Overheads are usually left raw. Then it's all sent to the group for some very mild compression to glue it all together and reverb. That's about it. Seems like a lot, but I bet it's pretty minimal compared to most people's real drum tracks.
I've had a "uh-huh" moment this week with my drums....LOL...I'd been processing the fuck out of 'em, & that's part of
the reason they sounded so sterile, I was compressing/choking the life out of the sounds I have....I do have to admit, some of the drum samples/sounds I have are pretty fuckin' good, but it's unreal at the amount of 'em I have...maybe if I get bored one day, I'll tell you guys everything I have here, but for now, let's just say it's a
lot....LOL...
I always do the multi-out thing with my drums, & I'd been using 2-3 reverbs (sends, different levels for each kit piece), but this week, I've cut it back to only 2, a room & the chamber (that you sent)...Keeping the send levels really low too....
If I can get a little more done tonight, I might post up the changed drums, just for shits-n-giggles....I've been pretty busy this week, so much so, I haven't even fired the amp up....yet...LOL....
What'd you think of the guitars?
I thought all of it sounded bad-ass man, more & more every time I listen to it...On the guitars, they're thick & meaty, but have the "bite" that I like to hear that cuts through with authority...good job man, can't wait to hear those songs finished...
I told myself I was gonna get this "album" done in a certain time, but it's probably not gonna happen, as I'm so picky, I wanna get the drum programming to another level, so it's still gonna be a while...I'm learning more & more about Jamstix, which is a cool, cool drum app, I'd recommend it to anyone that has enough patience to learn how to use it...Seems I'm learning something new every time I open the daw, which is a good thing IMO....
Time for a shower & something to eat....
Bob: Thanks for the rep thing man, if/when I get the "album" done, I'll post it here for you guys to laugh at....LOL....
