Bob: Thanks dude, it's took me a pretty long time to be able to do this, but, I'm pretty confident I can dial in & record a pretty decent tone fairly quickly now....thanks to you guys here helping me along, I've learned a bunch in the last while (almost 2 years now....LOL...), & the new gear I've gotten in the last while helped a lot too...
The Ampeg sounds like a great little amp, the Blackstar I had was pretty loud for 5w, but it fell into the category you described about all the others when cranked....Sounds like the Ampeg is a keeper for ya...
Greg: On the 'verb thing, I use it on pretty much everything, but I usually try to make my mixes sound like everything's been recorded in the same place (room, plate, etc), so I'll use a couple 'verbs, & send everything to 'em, at varying levels (IE: I don't like my kick to have very much, if any 'verb of any kind even room...and, usually on the guitars, I'll send 'em to the room verb, but have it pretty low, & panned to the same side that track is panned (on the last clip, there's some room & plate 'verb (I keep these
tracks' faders at "0" btw), & the left guitar's room send is about -30 db, panned 100% L, & the plate send is about -35 db, panned 100%L, IIRC...)...I think this helps myself, but could just be wasting my time fucking with it....LOL...
On the V30 thing, when I first got the Orange cab (over a year ago btw...just shows how little I've actually used that speaker, & how low-powered my amps really are compared to yours Greg...), I didn't like how it sounded at all, it had that big hump of mids, & no bottom end at all compared to the Greenback cab...but after a little while I got used to it, & it's a welcome change compared to the GB....A V30 will actually make my amp(s) sound a little gain-y-er than they really are too...
On the cab trade, sounds to me like the guy's wanting $$$ instead of a 2x12 dude, but that's just me....It is nice to have a jamming cab, last band I was in, I had a slant/
straight cab, & kept the bottom cab at home to practice through, packing my head back/forth...I'd leave the top/slant cab at the practice place for the band, just a couple connections, & I was ready....Again, sounds like the guy is wanting $$$ instead of a 2x12 dude, but may be wrong...
I'd been pretty excited to see what Marshall was gonna release at NAMM this year, but from what I've heard, the amps they've already released (the DSL-5 &
handwired/expensive as fuck amps) are all they're bringing, so, I guess if I'm gonna find another amp, and it's gonna be a Marshall, it ain't gonna be anything new, unless what I've heard/read is bullshit....I'll find out this week for sure though, but I can say, I was pretty excited to begin with, now, meh....
