I don't know if it's the "real" EVH track or not dude, it's a multi-track thing I got off the 'net. I think they're great for learning how to get a particular sound whether it be guitar, bass, drums, you can even hear what kind of fx are on some of the vocals...Is that the real Eddie track?
To me, I wouldn't say that it's brighter than yours, but it is tighter in the low mids to me. Another problem with chasing recorded tones is you're chasing recorded tones. You're trying to copy a sound that has been EQ'd, edited, processed, mastered, and God only knows what else. I also think there's more to Eddie's amp tone than a stupid variac. I'm no Super Lead expert, but I've heard them cranked and less than cranked. Channels jumped and not jumped. His sound is much gainier and thinner than any Super Lead I've come across. I think his amps were modded or he hit the front with something. It's not just the variac in my opinion. The only way to naturally approach his kind of gain with a NMV Marshall is to crank it, and when you do that, they get fat. They don't stay all tidy and together like his sound is. They get wild. Maybe his playing is so clean that the amp stays together ?I don't know. I just think there's way more to his sound than just his playing and a cranked Super Lead.
Never thought I would hear you play that...Tone is very close man.![]()
Lol! Fishing in spandex. Maybe that'll change my luck!In your tackle box where you left them. lol
Cool man, you never cease to amaze me with you recording skills.....Very nice, especially for your first VH attempt....I looked for an applause smilie, but this forum doesn't have one, if it did, I'd put a bunch of 'em here for ya.....
What 'verb did you use man, as I'm finding the reverb has almost as much to do with the sound as the amp/cab thing???
Again, very nice dude, I suppose I'm gonna have to break down & just buy a JVM, with a 4x12 cab....I've already spent enough on small amps/cabs/ampsims, that I could've had one already.....
Lemme know about the 'verb dude, and again, nice tone, pretty close especially for your first try/attempt at anything VH at all!!!
Thanks bud. I know it's not "exact" but I've always though that the JVM's OD1 Orange sounds very VH-ish. I never use that mode, but the first time I ever messed with it I was kind of shocked at how close to the early VH sound it is with little effort. I bet you would have a field day with this thing. My buddy and lead guitarist also has a JVM and he loves some EVH. He'll kick in OD1 orange and do Eruption note for note. It's scary good.
I'll try this again tomorrow with a few changes. I think I'm gonna loosen up the power section with my negative feedback mod, raise the overall volume, drop the gain a little, and maybe add a phaser in front.
The reverb....I'm not usre what I used to be honest. It's a convolution reverb, I know that much. The impulse file is like a large hall, or big room, or something like that. It's definitely a room and not a plate or spring. A big room reverb panned to the side.
Like I said, your recording skills never cease to amaze me Greg. I remember a few years ago when I first started recording, I'd listened to some of your stuff ("Deuce" by KISS comes to mind), & was blown away. You were using Guitar Rig at that time IIRC, & it still sounded spot-on.....
Dude, you're killing me talking about the JVM, don't tell me that shit....Really though, I'm actually thinking about flipping some of my gear to help fund a new amp. I'd love to have an old Super Lead or Plexi, but from what I've heard/read, the JVM does a pretty good job sounding like anything Marshall's put out over the years.....Now, stop talking about that damn JVM dude....
Was the 'verb one of Reaper's stock plugs??? I've been trying a bunch of different 'verbs, the one I've actually been using is inside of Guitar Rig 5, just using it as a send thing, 100% wet & panned out wide.....
You need to stipe up your Les Paul dude, & start letting cigarettes burn the headstock where you've put 'em between the strings while you're playing....Seriously though, the clip sounds good!!!!
The wife's gonna shit, but she'll just have to shit. I bust my ass to take care of her, so if I want a fucking half-stack, I'm gonna have one dammit.....![]()
More gain? You think? I don't know. I have to try with more volume before I'd add more gain.yeah its a sweet sound
van halen had more gain
but you know that already
