Greg,
You're right. Bad Reputation sounds ready to go. I hope the blokes in Crankshaft can beat them or it'll be a little embarrassing.
AND tambourine.

Well, there you go - I won't need to pester anyone. Thanks Greg & Bob for adding the details.
Thanks gents for the comments - appreciated. The biggest change with this mix was leaving days between listens.
The ME was certainly pleased - almost nothing for him to do as Greg & Bob had their parts well sorted and gave me lots of feedback as the thing progressed.

Next!

Hey fuckers and fuckettes,

In case anyone's bored, I finished that Pseudo-Punk-NOFX-Iron Maiden tune I posted here a few weeks ago, the one that had the hammer-ons. It's in the clinic.

Hey Rami, I'll check it out in just a little while...

I hit a snag with one of my old hard drives...It was actually my audio drive from the old pc & must have been living on borrowed time. I put it in the external case I bought, started copying my projects to the new, fresh drive & got a BSOD...Computer booted right back up, but the drive along with the power supply may have been what caused the old pc to shit the bed...Thankfully I've got it sorted now, but won't be able to record anything until tomorrow...The old hard drive makes all kinds of weird noises, so it's on it's last leg I'd say...I almost didn't buy an extra drive, & just use that one, but I'm glad I didn't go that route, I've had enough computer problems lately to last me a while....:D

Other than the one glitch, & not having near as many plug-ins installed (I made the decision to just install what I actually need, instead of all that shit), everything seems to be doing pretty good. A "big" project on the other pc would run about 50-60% cpu, & on the new one, it's barely 5%, so I'm pretty damn happy as basically doing the same thing barely taxes the computer at all...

Of course I'll have to change my habits/workflow due to not having 1,000,000 plug-ins, but it'll actually simplify things a lot, & maybe I'll be more productive & actually finish some of these songs I've got started.....

Thanks for the comments everyone. :)

Is EZ drummer really hard to use....For a dumb assed non drumming redneck like me I mean?

No, not really. It's time consuming to make something that doesn't sound totally stupid, but it's not hard to use. The bone stock sounds are mostly shit, and the "room track" is maybe the worst thing I've ever heard, so turn it off. But with some fumblefucking you can get something decent with ez drummer. It'll never be as good as a real drummer on real drums recorded well. But ez drummer is better than a shit drummer on a shit kit recorded by some n00b shithead in a shit room.

Gentlemen, I have a few reviews for you from my own personal experience....if anyone is interested. Ran around town yesterday fingerbanging a lot of stuff.

First off, Gibson's QC is still every bit as suspicious and inconsistent as ever. I saw this gorgeous tobaccoburst LP Standard yesterday, brand new, hanging way up on the wall, so I made the GC flunkee get it down. So me and my buddy played it for a while, and this thing would not stay in tune for shit. This wasn't brand new strings either, this thing was fucked somehow. Brand new guitar. The bass side of tailpiece and bridge were cocked way way up higher than the treble side just so the guitar will have regular action. It was goofy. So I peer down the neck and it's either twisted or cocked in the pocket. Insane. I cannot believe this guitar left the factory, and it's even more shocking that they tried to set this thing up. And the $3k pricetag for this unplayable piece of shit is the most shocking.

There were multiple LP Studios, which incidentally are $1500 now , that had what felt like unfinished necks. The neck material stuck out further than the fretboard, so there was this weird sharp ledge and rough fret ends. I felt this on several "lower end" Gibsons. Crazy. It may be pretty snooty of me to prefer neck binding, but goddamn those necks don't cut my fingers off either.

All of these weird QC problems seem to happen mostly to Les Pauls. SGs, Firebirds, Vs, Explorers...they always seem nicer and more consistent. Minerman, you lucked out bigtime buying those new Gibson's sight-unseen. :guitar:

Fenders...I played quite a few Fender guitars yesterday, and I still hate them. But there was a method to my madness...I found a killer deal on an old-ish used AC30 w/ Greenbacks, so I ran some nice USA Teles and Strats through it to test it out. I aint gonna lie, the Tele through an AC30 sounded amazing. Beautiful. I don't like it enough to buy a Tele, but it made go straight for a P-90 loaded SG. Bam, even better. Wow, that sounded real awesome. My GAS fire smoked a little bit, but I put it out. One day maybe I'll pursue an AC30 head, but not any time soon.

I didn't play anything pointy or hollow.

The next stop was the real winner. Went to another GC and tried out what we'd been waiting all day for - a Friedman Brown Eye, and a bunch of Supros. The Friedman sounded amazing. Goddamn that amp was bad ass. Minerman, if you ever win the lottery, that's the amp you need. But it's just a hot rodded Marshall clone. A great one, and very expensive, but that's all it really is. The Supros were my favorite of the day. Me and my buddy grabbed some nice Les Pauls, plugged into the biggest Supro, turned it way up, and holy shit it was Jimmy Page sound all over the place. Even a dumb hack like me could pull off convincing Led Zep tones through that amp. It was awesome. We played with that thing for a long time. I want a Supro. This was my favorite....1624T Dual-Tone | Supro

Then we had pizza and beers and I went home.

Greg, after a hard day annoying the piss out of GC kids you need one of these:

Cool on your day out Greg, I'd like to do that, but I'd have to drive 4 hours to be able to look at any kind of nice gear. There is a small little shop about 30 mins from here, but they don't have much at all...

You're exactly right about my Gibsons dude, I took a hell of a chance buying them online, but I seem to have gotten very, very lucky with 'em, as they're both keepers. They're absolutely the best guitars I own, hands down, especially the SG...I can see where the binding makes a difference for you now, before I just didn't "get it", but after spending some time with the SG I understand now...

I've heard a lot of good things about those Friedman amps, but unless I come into a lot of money, I'll probably never own one. If I remember, those things cost about $3-4k, which is outrageous for someone like me. But, if money weren't an object, I'd probably have a couple...In reality, ain't gonna happen...

I finally got all my software installed, authorized, projects copied over to the new hard drive, & I'm about to fire up the little EVH 15w to make a few clips for you guys. I like it myself, it gives me those 80's gain-y tones without blowing the windows out of the house...While I really, really miss my Chupa & DSL, I think this little 15 watter is a better fit for me right now because of where I'm living at the moment, & my financial situation. Eventually I'll get outta here, & then I'll probably go on the hunt for a big amp or two, but I'm extremely happy with the EVH LBX right now...

Here's a gutshot of the little amp:

Something that amazes me is they've crammed 7 tubes into this thing: 5 -12ax7's & 2 - el84's. This is my first EL84 amp (the closest thing I've had was the Tweaker), & it seems to be built pretty solid. It really doesn't have a clean channel, but that's not what it was made for, and I can roll the volume back on my guitar to get a semi-clean if I need to...

Clips to come...

A tone for ya'llz to rip apart.

Hey tonedummys.

I lucked in and managed to get a truck for the long weekend here in Canuckville and got to come for a few days. I decided to make the most of my couple days off and crank out some ideas i have had in my head. I'll attach one for you to sample at the bottom. I managed to commit like 4 hours so there is alot to change and perfect but this is merely something i can take back with tomorrow as a reference for writing and melody and shit. sometime is better than no time right?

The tone was the important part today as well as making sure the riffs i had dreamt up over the last few weeks came out of my fingers and onto the guitar properly. That part definitely needs work, but this is basically the foundation foot print of what i had been hearing in my head for one tune.

The drums, in keeping with the ezdrummer theme i have seen here in the last 30 minutes are just that, ezdrummer. Out of the box ezdrummer. They definitely will not be staying like this but for the purpose of getting the vibe down in the measly chunk of time i had it served it's purpose.

K so the tone, is this.

Gibson Lp Junior Special, Bridge P90's Into my orange AD30. In both the left and the right side, but i added a small nudge of treble to right side of the track.

Channel 2
Master 8.5ish
Treble 4.5ish (more 5ish on the right side of the track)
Middle 5
Bass 4
Gain 4.5ish

Into Orange 4x12 Mic'd with a SM57 right on the grille cloth, top left speaker about maybe an inch off the dust cap in a northwesterly direction.

I have noticed a huge difference in the tone this little orange put out today just by jumping the master up as loud as i could before it got fizzy and shitty and pushing my preamps a little harder than i have been. At least i think i like it more. I am doing a b it more picking style notes and stuff not straight power chords. This song of all the ones istart will be making more use of picking single notes, full chords, all six strings that sort of thing and i think this tone will really help that sound out. If i play a power chord this amp just seem to sound kind of flubby and sort of one dimensional. If that makes sense.

Oh and i also finally made use of that Holy Grail reverb impulses i downloaded and there is a pinch of that on these tracks as well. I hope it isn't obvious but to my ears it really made the sound i am trying to go for pop[ out a little bit more?

Don't judge the performance. I was trying to kill 4 birds with one pebble time wise today. I am super happy with this tone, and how it works with where i want to take it, but i'll let you guys give your two cents. I suspect to most it might still have some of that Orange Darkness but i think i can fix that but upping the master a little bit more and adding some treble, and / or throwing my condensor on the cone somewheres and working it into the mix.

But i'll let yall have a gander first.

Also i hate that i am not as much a part of this community as i should be. But hopefully this stint working away from home doesn't last for ever (even though the money is good and i need it after last year) and i'll be back to a semi normal life again soon. Anyways i have a birthday for my neice to get to now. Enjoy your long weekend turkeys.

hopefully the link works for you guys.

I'm going to go possibly break a rule and post my song here. Only because it's a song that I posted here in its' infancy as I was working on it and got help on my guitar tones. It's now finished with real drums and vocals.

I took it down in the Clinic because that place really is a waste land now, unfortunately.

Funny, there are about 7 or 8 people that don't hesitate to send me a PM or an e-mail every time they fart, cough, or sneeze to ask me how it sounds, but they're too self-absorbed to take a listen to anything. From now on, no more helping people privately. I got no problem helping someone out, I can talk music all day. But when it turns into a "I don't have time for you, but I have no self-respect so I won't hesitate to send you an e-mail or PM to ask you to help me", I say fuck you.

So anyway, feel free to ignore this. I'd just rather get the opinions of the people that hang out here than in the Clinic at this point.

MONKEE ME MONKEE YOU

Shan, good to see you.

It's a little dark, but not in a bad way. The only time I notice it getting closer to muddy is when you're doing that fast chugging on the low E. But even then, it's not bad at all. I like it. No bass in there, right? That can change everything.

shan ..... sounds good man ... RAMI is right, the chugging parts gets a little dark but I actually like it ..... gives some variety to the sound.
Nice fast chugging rhythms ..... .... cool stuff .... gonna be some vocals over that?

RAMI .... it probably gets boring that I always just say your stuff is great but it just is.
great riffs .... always great mixes .... great writing and even cool harmonies which you don't hear so often these days .... I'd buy an album of your music ....... (I'd send a PM and ask for it for free first) :D

That NEVER gets boring. :D

I really appreciate that. I have to say that this tune was the most fun I've ever had recording guitars for a song of mine. Maybe because it was also very challenging to have those riffs in my head and having to actually practice and learn them as if it was someone else's song.

I'd send you a free copy....even if you asked. :D

Shan: Good to see you here man, I think the guitars sound fine to me dude. When you add the other instruments I think it'll be fine dude...Again, good to see you here...

Rami: I posted in the clinic, but I'll tell you again, this is great dude. Everything sounds great & super tight playing...

Thanx buddy. Yup, saw your comment. Then I took it down and decided to post it here. Thanx a lot, duder.

Ok, here's a few tones from the new (to me, I got it used in a trade) EVH LBX 15w head through my 4x12...

Signal chain:
SG > EVH > GB > i5 (raw tracks, no trickery in the daw)

Amp settings:
15w mode (it's got a 1/4 power switch that's supposed to take it down to about 4 watts)
Blue Channel (this is supposed to be the crunch channel, & the red channel has more gain...)
Resonance: 0
Bass: 5
Mids: 5
Treble: 5
Presence: 5
Gain: 1
Volume: Starts at 3, then goes to 5, 7, & finally 10

EVH Vol 3

EVH Vol 5

EVH Vol 7

EVH Vol dimed

These clips do sound a little boxy to me, but I could probably fix that messing with the amp's eq & using just a little resonance. I just set everything to "5" for a baseline on how the little amp responds to the power tubes being pushed...Another thing is the amp's eq is really responsive & just the slightest turn of the knobs makes a big difference...Other than that, I ain't got no more excuses....:D

I like this little amp a lot so far, & don't let the 15w thing fool you. No, it's not a 50/100w Marshall, but it's pretty damn loud for such a small amp...

Lemme know what you guys think....
