The New Tone Thread

It wouldn't hurt to have one. I like the shit out of mine.

Have you ran the JVM through it dude??? I'm wondering if I'd gain anything using one with the DSL...Like I mentioned, it's got a master, but the amp doesn't "wake up" until you hit about 3-4 on the volume, & it's loud as fuck by that time...Turning the volume down kinda neuters the amp IMO...Not expecting bedroom volume using an attenuator, just knock the loudness down a little...

The last few days, I'm liking the 100w mode a lot more than the 50w. While it does basically what it's supposed to, it's not the same amp in 50w mode...

I have used it with the JVM. A while back I posted clips of all of my amps through the attenuator, but I took em all down for space.

The JVM doesn't need it. It's power section is so tight that the tone stays the same regardless of volume, and cranking it does next to nothing besides making it mega loud. There is very little power section breakup with that amp. And at very low volumes the speakers don't really get involved, but the tone is mostly the same. So that amp is perfectly happy in the middle volume ranges just by master volume control alone. I assume your DSL will act mostly the same.

Shit that sounds pretty awesome. Perfect tones for that kind of song.

Thanks dude, I'm still getting used to the SG, but man that thing has some sustain to it, which is a good thing, I can turn the gain knob down a little so it doesn't fuzz out on me...And something else, dude this guitar plays like no other I have right now. I'd talked about raising the action a little for slide, but I don't think I'm gonna fuck with it. It just about plays itself...I'm betting I could pull the slide thing off on this guitar, I just need to practice...:o

That's about what I was thinking, just using the volume on the DSL would probably do the same thing...

I went looking for clips this morning in the thread, but a lot of 'em are gone now, mine included. I did some cleaning out not long ago myself...

Believe it or not, I've been looking at those cheap-ass Bugera plexi clones. A couple people's clips I've heard don't sound half-bad, & they're cheap as fuck. I just wonder about the build quality of those amps...I've read stories their older amps were shit as far as build quality, but they seem to have upped their game...

Bugera is crap. I strongly advise against one of those.

If you want a Plexi-clone, get another Ceriatone, or get your Chupa back.

That's about what I figured, cheap crap...

I'm still working on the Chupa-Fund Raiser project, I did get rid of the Orange 1x12 & the ISO cab, but the shipping on the ISO cab fuckin' killed me. But, I'm taking the loss on the ISO cab anyway, just to get rid of the damned thing (it sure cleared a lot of space here, plus I never used the fuckin' thing...I have to admit, that was one of the worst purchases I've ever made...). So, I'm about $75 or so shorter than I expected, but I still should be able to swing it at the first of May...That is, if nothing major happens between now & then...I expected things not to happen for the whole year of 2015, but it was a big 'ol shit sandwich, & I got more than just a bite....

I've been thinking pretty hard about flipping the DSL for another amp too. Maybe a JCM800 or something kinda like it. I wouldn't do that until I get my Chupacabra back though, I don't wanna be amp-less...

Haha! You know the JCM 800 is my most favoritest amp of all time, but it doesn't have nearly enough gain for you without some overdrive help. Every clip I've ever heard from you is beyond the gain capabilities of a JCM 800. The green channel maxxed on your DSL is roughly about as far as a JCM 800 goes.

Miner, that clip sounds excellent. Nothing wrong with the tone at all, nothing sticks out as sounding work with it that needs fixing, drums sound good, you'd best finish the song now!

Well dude, most if not all of my favorite tones are pushed with an od pedal...Plus, an attenuator would help it to grind a little more in the power section, without blowing the walls out. I'm thinking of a 50w instead of the 100w because of this...I know a 50w is still gonna be loud, but combined with an attenuator, I should be able to make it work....

I know the 800 & plexi are similar sounds, but there should be enough difference between 'em to distinguish....for us tone-tards anyway...

Thanks Jdude, I wasn't sure about the levels in the mix, but I'm getting more used to the room I'm using (I'm in a different house than I was last year btw)...

Ah, I wasn't really listening to that from a mix POV. Just the way the drums sounded and the tone of the guitars. My good reference headphones are back in my home and I'm in my weekday apartment at the moment.

I don't normally watch vids like this on yootoob, but it popped up on my recommendations for some reason.

Killer. I wonder what his settings are. Sounds great.

He doesn't say if he's using anything going into the front end, but I agree. He's a decent player for that sort of thing -which really helps- , but even so there's no denying he is killing that Marshall tone we're all talking about.

Thanks Bubba.....

And.....BLAMMO!!!!! The 4 - T-75's just sold!!!! I can't fuckin' believe this shit. I couldn't give this gear away last year, & I've sold everything except the Randall 1x12 within a week....So, the Chupa Fund Drive has met it's quota...I could buy it back now, but I probably need to wait until the first of May, because sure as shit I do, something will come up, & I'll be broke...I just can't believe this shit myself, I was expecting to take a few months of saving up what I could instead of this gear selling like it has...

I dunno if I've passed the bad luck I'd been having all this time onto someone else, & wouldn't wish any of that shit on anyone, but holy fuck guys, it's starting to look like things really are turning around for me over here...

Un-fuckin'-believe-able...

His playing is a big part of it. He plays just right for that classic rock sounding stuff, he plays the right guitar, and that style and guitar is just right for that amp. It's a match made in heaven, and that sound is pretty heavenly.

---------- Update ----------

Haha, awesome. I'll tell Shawn you're almost ready to buy it back.

Good deal miner! It feels good to get rid of unused stuff. It's great that you found buyers for it all!

That's about 10 grand worth of guitar, amp, and cabs he's goofing off with there.
