Both of those sound like fun.
The double duty gig should be a blast! Which will come first ... drumming or Guitar?
I think I'd prefer guitar band first if it were me. You use a lot of energy when you play drums.

As for the sucky band being where your good band is ..... fuck 'em. if they hadn't have sucked you'd still be playing with them.

I'll be drumming first. It really makes no difference to me. I drum for four hours in a hot garage at practices, so an hour set in the A/C with fans pointing at me is nothing. Playing guitar is like taking a nap for a drummer. :D

I played a gig where my previous band played support to my then current band. They'd improved a lot musically but not as people: they tried to steal a bag of pedals from our guitarist on their way out. I left them because they were, generally, not pleasant folk and their music didn't counter that. Mind you I left the band that was headlining a couple of months later when they demanded the drummer shave or leave! Seems I've met a lot of jerks in bands.
You probably won't need to get physical Greg. If they turn up and suck as much as you've said they'll want to get gone.

A quick 20 second clip.

Can you guys let me know if the slight break up I have going here sounds good. I don't want it completely clean, but I also don't want it "Hell's Bells". I'm just worried that it might sound a little too in between, as if the little bit of break up I have sounds like an un-desireable crackling....or if it's ok.

RAMI,
I like the level of break up though it does make the bass string a little loud.
Greg,

Someone in Melbourne is selling a
Marshall MG100hdfx head
for $200
"I have this Marshall head up for sale.
Works fine, with a few built in effects.
Only issue is the master volume pot is a little scratchy, and occasionally drop out or dip in volume. Probably an easy fix, but I just can't be bothered. "
Any comment?

Hey Ray, me personally, I'd steer far far away from the MG Marshalls. You know I love me some Marshalls, but those MGs are poop.

MGs are solid state and not any better than pretty much any solid state practice level amp.

There might be a model or two that has a tube in the preamp but even then they're pretty meh

Thanx Ray. I think you mean every time I hit the G on the low string on the third fret at the end of the phrase, not every time I actually hit hit the open E?

It's a little fuzzy to me. It is similar to Hells Bells, but it's a little more fizz than crunch. I'd try it with less gain or less guitar volume.

OK, I thought it was sort of fizzy, too. Hell's Bell's is a lot more distorted. I do have the guitar turned down. I'm thinking I should either go with totally clean, or a lot more distorted. Right now it''s sounds like I was trying to go clean but had some un-wanted noise. I'm trying to get that sort of "on the verge of break up" that you get from a Fender Bassman, but I didn't succeed.

This is only the intro. I turn up the guitar as the song goes on. I think it sounds a lot better by the time I get to the third verse. But I didn't want the same sound all through the tune, I wanted it to gradually get more distorted.

Maybe try a very loud clean?

Yes. First attempt at recording the new SG. Used the bridge pick-up.

Ok. Maybe try this....full guitar volume, but set the amp very clean and loud. The first bit of pick attack will give you quick crunch but overall the sustain will be clean.

Cool, this is why I like re-amping. I can try that without re-tracking because I turned down what I was sending to the amp at the fader, but recorded the actual track at full guitar volume. I'm assuming turning down what I'm sending to the amp is the same thing as turning down the guitar itself?

No not really. It's not the same. Turning down at the guitar affects the output and frequency response of the pickup itself. Depending on the guitar's wiring and pots, etc. Dropping the signal for reamping just sends a weaker signal to the amp.

OK, that makes sense, I was just fooling with it now and you're right. I'm going to play with it a bit more. Thanx a lot.

OK, I decided to go more distorted as opposed to cleaner. The only thing I'm worried about is that it sounds too much like "Hell's bells", only because the riff is sort of similar to a certain extent.

Anyway, I put up the whole tune, without vocals, so you can get an idea how it sounds with the bass. There's also some soloing going on later on, etc....

Don't mind the drums. I do those last and haven't got around to doing them yet, so I just have a place-holder drum machine going on right now. That's my click track, basically.

Let me know how this sounds. Thanx a lot.

Nope. Listening again, I still don't like it. Probably going to have to use another sound altogether. This Fender Bassman patch isn't working.
