Yeah that's him. Forgot his name. SoloDallas. That guy is a bonafide AC/DC freak.

I've been tracking vocals.....and pretty much confirmed to myself what I've known all along...I'm a terrible, terrible singer....

I am pretty sure, we all say that miner sir. Truth be known you are just being way to hard on yourself. Bello your heart out like no one is listening.

lol ..... the most common compliment I get on my gigs is people liking my vocals and I STILL can't stand my voice!

A nice quote from Malcom in that AC/DC article about not using pedals because he prefers to figure out how to get sounds by just messing around with his playing technique ..... "I think if you can buy it, it's too common"

Haha, I love it. Even in my own dumb punk rock realm of guitar playing, I do stuff like that all the time. There are a few songs we do that I clean it up a little. I roll the vol back and pick closer to the bridge. Bam, instant cleaner sound. Dial the vol back up and start sawing away nearer the neck joint, instant huge. It's a lot of fun for me to just use the guitar and the way I play while other dudes are tap dancing all over pedals and channel switchers. I got to the guitar vol technique party very late, but I'm happy to be here. It also helps to have equipment that responds to that stuff.

I think that's a big part of my problem, Bob, but I'm not shitting you guys when I tell you I can't sing very well....I do the best I can, but singing is something I really need to work on, & I honestly don't do very much of it....

I think the nice thing about singing rock music is that you just have to sell it. It doesn't have to be great or perfect, you just have to make people believe that how it is is how it is. Some of the most famous rock singers of all time could really sing, but probably more of them just belted out attitude and it works. Can Lemmy sing? Not hardly, but is there anyone cooler than Lemmy? Not likely.

You have to take a lot of amphetamines to get even anywhere close to Lemmy.

HA! I did some vocals this weekend. They are whatever. they Aren't near a lemmy quality though. The hard part for me is making the back ups and harmonizing vocals sound exciting and like they are supposed to be there. I can bullshit/hack my way through pretty much anything i try and sing. The freakin harmonies i always get stuck on like one note or key or whatever, I just can't find a nice match. After i reach that point the whole effort goes down sinking quickly.

Just follow the chords and move as little as possible. For example, if the chords are A, D, F, one of your back vocals can sing an A all through those 3 chords, because there's an A in every one of those chords. You don't need to jump around at all.

RIGHT?! Thanks RAMI. That is what i tried to do first. (Key of G i think) Just the one key. It just sounded off for one chord transition. I might go back and listen to it again. Maybe it did work and i was just being a turd. I took an old Lead Belly song and added some punk / rock seasoning to it. Which at first i thought would be a super easy project to do to get a feel for my new room / set-up, but it is turning out to be the opposite. Mostly because of these stupid harmonies. After listening to it again this morning i feel it needs to be rearranged; so it's going back to the drawing board anyways.

---------- Update ----------

Why am i force of nature? Can i make it not say that?

Story of my life. Every time I think a song's going to be a breeze, it turns out to be the hardest thing I've ever done. Every time I think a song will be a huge challenge, it comes together with no effort. It's some kind of law or something.

Yep. Agreed. 100% My brother and his friend wanted to do a cover of Galway Girl and i was like, "shit, i have four days to help them with this, this is going to suck"

We had it tracked and done in two. It just took me like 3 or 4 months to mix it haha.

I've found when adding backing vocals that tuning becomes really important. You can have the lead vocal out a bit and it doesn't matter so much, but I've found that backing vocals have to be pretty tight. The last recording I did, I had some real tuning issues that only really became obvious once the harmony vox were added. That's probably just me being a bit tone deaf in the first instance, though.

Even More intro variations

Hello Chaps. Yeah, I'm boring - I know.
The 1st version is the one preferred last time around - Epiphone Sheratone II into Defender Kustom 5W with Boss SD1 on one side for a boost all into a Marshall (cheap noughties version) 4x12. 3 mics - 57 1/2 way across cone, L'Grange off axis on edge & Sennheiser e600ish 1/2 way on the speaker above
The 2nd version- Guyatone Mosrite copy into a tiny portable Pignose with just the Senn right up against the cloth.
Which works best in the mix?

to me the first one works best in the mix .... the 2nd one is just too prominent

Thanks Lt Bob & ShanPeyton,
I agree.
I set the levels of the two leads soloed - they were even at that stage & then I removed the mute from the backing and render as was.
The Pignose does seem to cut through a little harder and its tone isn't as pleasant as the Defender.
I was experimenting with ways to mic the Pignose and decided to try it within the context of a mix.
I am pleased that I'm getting closer to success with the little Pig.
I'll leave the intro as the preferred thanks to your thoughts gents.
I'll experiment with the Pignose some more though in a different context - I've heard it used really well but have struggled to capture it m'self.

I like the 2nd one quite a bit more. It's smoother, and I like the frequency response of it. The first one sounds too boxy and mid-focused. I think that #2 sits in the mix better as well.

Hey mofos, I finally got this bitch ass Jubilee home for some proper testing.

I don't know why I'm infatuated with getting along with this thing. I really don't. It doesn't come close to my other amps as far as I'm concerned. But I need to hear it through some proper cabs and not those freaky 8x10s at the practice space. One thing I got totally wrong before without ever really looking at it...this thing is 100 watts. Not 50. Derp. I need to figure out the two volumes and the push/pull pots. This thing is goofy. Clips to come....
