Nice stuff, El Tee. Not really hard-core country - which I don't care for. More a country flavored thing. Reminiscent of Pure Prairie League, Allmans, CSN, etc...

thnx Lou ...... how's it goin' man? Don't see ya' too often ..... what kinda musical shenanigans you into these days?

And, personally, I don't believe in, nor pay much attention to, definitions of what some type of music is supposed to be. I play what I want and let others define or label it.
I get your point but I just don't believe such labels have much pertinence anymore.

This is an opinion that is not shared by many and I understand that ..... I'm just giving my perspective.

Hey LT - not doing much of anything musically at the moment. Occasional pleasure playing but that's about it. I hear you on the genre thing I just never much liked Tammy Wynette or George Jones style country but I'm okay with some of the other stuff I mentioned.

Take care. I'll stop pop in from time to time.

Those sound really good Boob. Almost sounds like a lap steel or something. What's that technique called? Double stops? Sounds great. Nice stuff. :)

Lt Bob, really nice in the mix and the same solo's - def. has a cool lap steel feel to it as greg mentioned.
I think your little filligree does nice things to the song - & that's the point afterall.

thnxs guys .... I appreciate it

ummmmmm ......... maybe? :D I've never been sure what a double stop is to be honest.

It depends on which licks we're talking about .... for the ones where it sounds most like a steel, I'm holding the 1st and 2nd strings and bending the 3rd. For a G for instance, I'd hold the 15th fret on the E and the B strings with my pinky and bend the G string at the 14th fret a full step with my ring finger (usually reinforce it with my middle finger).
That ends up being a G Major inversion and the way you get there, with two notes not moving and the third moving a step, is pretty steel-like.
It sounds even closer with a volume pedal.
I've done the faux steel thing a long time ..... some of the earliest things I learned were country and I always loved steel.

The things that might be called double stops are chords held in various positions and then flipping extra notes up and down the arpeggio.
Whatever you call them, Greg'll love this! :D ..... I got that from Hendrix ( who got it from the soul and R&B groups from his youth.)
He always moves around a lot over his chording like say on "Bold As Love" ........ that's totally where I learned that ...... it somehow expanded to where I use it even in country stuff but originally it was jimi.

Fucking Hendrix.

It's funny you bring him up. I've been listening to him a lot lately, force feeding myself a steady diet of Hendrix, just like 30 minutes ago in fact, trying like hell to hear what all the fuss is about. I must be totally guitar dumb because I just don't get it. I like his sound and all the noises he makes and shit, but I don't hear anything that I can latch on to. I must be way out in right field because even with shit I don't like, I can usually still hear what's good about it. Like country music. All that chicken-pickin blows me away. Brian Setzer.....I don't listen to that jazzy swing shit, but fuck I think that guy can play. I don't hear anything with Jimi. Nothing about that shit inspires me in any way. I wish I could do some chicken pickin, I wish I could play rockabilly swing like Brian Setzer. All I want from Jimi are his Marshall stacks. That's it. :(

Lol ....... I'm the same way with SRV ....... I'm just not excited by it at all.

But I dunno which Hendrix you're listening to.
Don't get me wrong ...... I know he's not the kind of music you like and none of his stuff is gonna get you excited.
It's just not the style of music you're drawn to.

BUT ..... if the stuff you're trying to listen to are his most known songs, you're not hearing the stuff I find inspiring.

The song 'Bold As Love' off Axis:Bold as Love .... not popular but one of my favorites of his.
Not the lead work .... his rhythm on that is really amazing.
Try that song. Another song where his rhythm work is pretty amazing is "Long Hot Summers' Night" off Electric Ladyland.
Try those two songs and mainly listen to his rhythm work.

NOT trying to make you a fan ....... but I would like to find at least a couple of his tunes that might show you a part of his playing that, while you still won't suddenly be a Hendrix fan, will make you hear a part of him you haven't been shown before.

I just pull him up on rhapsody and "play all tracks". I'm guessing there's some deep cuts in there. Most of it I've never heard before. I'll check those tunes out specifically.

I really don't like any of his songs. I don't like that slow groove psychedelic hippie shit. I think that's what really holds me back from his "genius". I simply just cannot relate. I do like that "stand next to your fire" song though because it's probably the most rockinest song from him that I'm currently aware of.

What's funniest to me is that I'm a grown ass man that's been playing music for more than half my life and I'm probably the only guy on the planet that doesn't worship at the alter of Jimi Hendrix.

"Fire" is one of my favorite drumming songs! Mitch Mitchell really grooves at a high tempo on that track.

I'm not a Hendrix fanboy either, but I do love Mitch Mitchell, one of my top 5 drummers!

Yeah he is a fun drummer. I do like his style and I play kind of like that sometimes with a few of my bands songs. I try to do like a Keith Moon/Mitch Mitchell thing, and it's bad, but it's fun. :D

In other new, ran my new 800 at a gig the other night. It was awesome. Soundguy told me to turn down. Punk ass bitch.

so you turned up?

:D

No, I just did as he asked and was pissed the whole time. I noticed all of the bands before us had less than ideal guitar presence in the room and in the mains, so I turned my shit up. This was a pretty big place. I had the master vol on like 5. No big deal. It sounded fucking glorious. I record louder than that. I think I overloaded his preamps or something. I really almost said, "fuck it, don't even mic me and I'll play as loud as I want".

Turns out that it was probably for the best because I couldn't hear our limp-wristed pussy boy drummer anyway. This was his first gig with us, and he was terrible. I guess it was nerves maybe. His meter was atrocious, his fills were a trainwreck, and he was playing soft like it was a fucking jazz show. Hit the fucking drums! Ugh. The blind drummer we had was soooo much better. So much better. It was an awful show. Awful, and it wasn't even my fault. I had to go along with the awfulness. One more show like that and I'm out. I'm a total hack, and even I'm better than that. It was an embarrassment,.

man ...... playing drums behind you is not a job for a pussy drumber!

:D

Gotta rock ..... that's too bad .... hopefully he'll be less timid next time.

It's fucking lame. Maybe being a drummer myself I hold him to too high a standard, but fuck! Just play the drums like drums are supposed to be played in rock and roll music. We had a fucking BLIND drummer who was awesome! He was BLIND! FUCKING BLIND! And he was great. I had no complaints with him. The two "leaders" of this band picked this new kid because they pissed off the blind drummer somehow and were desperate for a replacement, because God forbid we have to cancel a garbage show at a garbage place on a fucking thursday. And now they wanna record. There's no way, no chance in hell I'm recording anything with this drummer. They can book a studio if they wanna stick with this guy. I'm not doing it.

Stopping in again guys, can't listen, but Tuesday I should have 'net where I'm staying.....I know I keep saying this, but I'm doing all I can do.... Greg: "full Appalachian" is really what I am dude, I live smack in the middle of those mountains, where VA, KY, & TN all meet....I can be in KY/TN in less than an hour....

My 'cello's in its case. The stand is in my music space to remind me that it exists & I should, after having been given it and spent money on lessons, take it out & play the thing. It's fun but also a hassle.

I have a trombone that I told myself I'd learn how to play, but I only got as far as going boooowwwwwwwwwwwwrrrrruuuuuuuuuuuuup!
