you want dark try a devils triad, 7-7-7 over whatever key your playing in, aka so the 7th of the key or chord then the 7th of that then the 7th of that 7th...

ohh the E minor always works for me... Although some chord shapes in alternate tunnings give me some spine tingling stuff........
 
ahh Em was the first chord i learned... every riff i made seemed to include Em in it. but now im older and wiser... F harmonic Minor raped my kids, tore out my insides, and swallowed my soul through a bendy straw. it also slept with my girl

Tune to open D-minor - you'll need thick guage strings for this - and it is from low to high: D A D F A D. Because 4 of the strings are dropped a full tone fom standard tuning, you'll sound dark. Real dark. Plus, because it's an open tuning, you can get eerie drone sounds. Try it. Sounds cool.
 
How the hell did this thread get dug up? Its like 4 months old....and completely dumb to boot.
 
G major is the darkest chord I play. Really, why risk going to hell.
