Tascam 32 repro output issue

Hi guys, my 32 has had an issue with the left channel output in repro (also the left meter does not move), in sync everything works fine. The issue has been intermittent over the past few months but would not work at all today during a recording session.

Ethan had a similar problem with his 32 found in this thread:
https://homerecording.com/bbs/general-discussions/analog-only/tascam-32-fix-found-164168/

According to him the issue was with 'the sync (or in my case repro) connectors on the motherboard'. He said he moved them around a bit and the signal would cut in and out so he just resoldered it and problem solved.

I opened up my machine to do this but I don't know which connectors are for the repro signal (there are dozens) without schematics. Hoping that someone can either take a look for me and just let me know the part number for it and I can then find it myself (there are numbers next to all the connectors) or scan in the relevant section of the schematics.

Thanks guys,

Also, if it helps, I could take a photo of the motherboard and maybe someone can identify it from that?

Nightmare! I had full schematics and blowups for a 32-2 but I sold them along with the machine.

I hate it when then happens.

Have you taken off the headblock cover and made sure that the wires aren't loose on the actual head?
They're colour coded right? If memory serves you should be able to match the colours at the head to the colours on the board.
I had to resolder wires at the head on my 22-2 one time.

Good practice would probably be to reseat all of the connectors anyways.

It's likely to be the relays, actually.

It came back on today and was working fine. I'm no expert but could the relay really be intermittent like that?

I'd definitely still want to do what Ethan was saying in his thread because it sounds exactly like the symptoms on my machine.

I had the same problem. I fixed mine by re soldering the wires directly connected to the output rca adapters. I can't remember why the problem was connected to the repro rather than sync but that's how I remember fixing it. There's a more recent thread somewhere where we talked about it.

Thanks for that SteveM. Do you remember if your meters were still showing signal when in repro? Just seems like any connection issues with the output rca adapters shouldn't stop the meters from working.

Found the thread https://homerecording.com/bbs/general-discussions/analog-only/r-channel-tascam-32-out-320659/#post3614431

I don't believe there was any meter movement. I can't seem to remember how it all played out though, so I had to look at this thread again to jog my memory.

Actually you're in it too. You were the other person with the same problem.

So it was a cold solder joint. I could be wrong but I'm thinking there are two sets of terminals on the mother board connected to the rca L&R output. One from sync and one from repro. So I heated up the solder and it fixed the problem.

Tricky. Relays sticking is one possibility, a bad solder joint is another. Both would be intermittent...
