Hi everybody

First time here and for the sole purpose of hoping you can take me out of my misery.

I am looking for a mic for youtube recordings and all recordings will be indoor.

I was looking into lavalier mics and I found quite a few with 5/5 ratings a lot of people with positive reviews but when i search for a sound test on youtube.... they sound like crap. Most of them have a flat, low tone sound. I need it to sound like my original voice as much as possible.

The reason i chose to find a lavalier mic is because the room has a bit of an echo, and when i recently invested in a decent headset .. it diminished the echo and any noise around 100%. I wont be able to wear a headset in this case though, as i will be standing infront the of the cam talking. Im afraid the normal mics will also record the echos because they'll be further away. I could be wrong though...

The other problem is that i don't have a lot to invest. I want something relatively cheap but decent, for starters.

Im not limited to lav mics only though. So, any recommendation on mics for this purpose would be highly appreciated! I prefer to find something from amazon.co.uk as they deliver pretty quick to my location (Cyprus).

Looking forward to hearing from you soon

You didn't mention budget.

The echo means you are likely catching too much of a bad sounding room and likely not the right mic match in terms of a Lav.

Spoken word, voice over, etc... can get every bit as detailed and expensive as tracking instruments vocals etc....Lots of experts.

If too much room is coming into your track, you can get a mic that has a more focussed polar pattern, cardioid, hyper etc... or a cheap way of dealing with room acoustics, is eliminate them as much as possible and post process in reverb if u need but sounds like straight might be the way for you.

I would first experiment with positioning the mic in the room, not directed towards the open part of the room but adjusting the distance from the wall behind you while you are speaking. If placement doesn't help, get one of those cheap isolation portable vocal screens. Not windscreen, the whachamacallit, something like a SE electronics Reflexion filter contraption or something that could function similarly.

Best of luck, some popular lower price mice might be Shure Sm7 and EV RE20 and many others all the way up!
