A lot of people when constructing a hip-hop/rap song forget to watch their syllables. They try to fit to much into one line or sometimes not enough in one line. When constructing your lyrics remember to fill the beat and give your sound some bounce. Lyrics arent just words we write down in a certain order to make a rhyme, it takes a process, a process that solely is up too you. If you dont know what syllables are, look it up, do some research because matching syllables in your rhymes will indefinately improve the sound of your flow. Im js lol.
 
Its seems that nowadays there is more emphasis on rhythm and free flow in rap music than on syllables. It's almost considered uncool to have the same amount of syllable in every verse.
 
I don't know that the OP is about necessarily matching the number of syllables in each verse (not entirely sure what is it about?), but if so, I agree with you that it would be pretty boring.

I don't even think back in the golden age of the early '90's that was desirable. For me, as a listener, a lot of the interest comes from mixing it up between rapid-fire sections and more drawn out bits. I still think the syllables used need to fit the rhythm regardless of their number per verse, but maybe "free flow" goes beyond that and drifts a bit more? Not sure. Clearly not an expert here, just chiming in...

well it doesnt have to be every line.. Im js for amateurs.. constructing syllabled verses would be a great way to start at learning how tobetter construct a song..like if I said motion is ocean Im sippin on potion opposed to motion is oceanic im sippin on potion.. the 1st will always sound more constructed.. js

With that specific comparison, I agree, the 2nd one doesn't work. I think that's more because it doesn't rhyme though, rather than the differences in syllables, you know?

What about motion is oceanic - I'm sippin' on potion 'cross the Adriatic ? With the right cadence that could work, even though there's only 7 syllables followed by 11 or 12 or whatever...

I guess what I enjoy most about rap is the lack of rules...you don't have to follow boring rhyming schemes and song structure conventions. Maybe I'm missing the point and if so, I apologize. I just think while your first example works, it'd get kinda boring after a while.
