My fiance picked up some cleaner when she went out today. I wrote down CAIG MCL, to see if Home Depot had any, but apparently the guy there said they didn't, but said this stuff is the same deal.

It says "Switch & Contact Cleaner" and also "Use on all types of electrical switches, contacts and electromechanical components - Motor Starters - Telephone switching equipment - Computers - Electrical typewriters - Calculators - Elevator controls - Servomechanisms - Automotive parts - Appliances - TV Tuners. Switch and contact cleaner is non-conductive. It leaves no residue.

And that's about it. The guy said that it lubricates and doesn't strip away anything. I tried it on my old faders, but it's hard to tell whether it works because before I got them taken out and replaced, I think they got sprayed with some degreaser crap by my father in law, so besides the fact they could be 23 years old, they are really stripped down to no lube...so it's hard to tell whether it works well or not and I don't want to risk it on any of my good faders that are in use.

What do you think?

I doubt if it lubricates but those are probably wire wound sliders. The best used to be freon which is illegal now. If the sliders arent intermittent or noisy I wouldnt worry about them because that tells me they are not corroded The wires, depending on use are probably as shiny as they were twenty years ago..

It wont hurt them but I would get a lub cleaner and give them a shot.. They have changed so much I couldnt recommend a brand but I just cleaned the volume control with the contact cleaner from the shack...I have used contact cleaner from the shack probably longer than the age of your sliders. The best used to be blue stuff we used on the old tv tuners but I doubt if you could get it anymore...

No, these sliders aren't wire wound I don't think. I replaced them all last summer, because the original ones were badly killed. The little piece moves up and down the tract and there is something like electrical tape acting as a dust cover. They aren't noisy, but some are rather stiff, and it's very hard to move them with your fingers. My fingers have even slid off them trying to move them back down, so I'd like to get them lubricated.

I just wanted to make sure this product won't strip off any current lube or anything like that, because the pots aren't dirty like my old ones, just kind of difficult to move.

I've tested it on one fader and it seems to work, but then after a while it goes back to how it was before...
