I own a Super Twin and don't mind it at all....Not my ideal, but very versitile....I meinly use it in the studio...Not fancy by anymeans and the distortion absolutly sucks, but the extended EQ section makes for some versitile sounds.....I also run my Hofner 500/1 through it into a Jackson 4x12 cab instead of the internals and it absolutly smokes....
You don't mean the infamous "Red Knob Twin," do you?
If so, yours is a minority opinion, to say the least, as this amp is almost universally reviled (somewhat unfairly), though a few people like them. There are some good ones and a whole LOT of bad ones.
After doing some reading I guess I do have the "Red Knob Twin". I must be one of the lucky ones because I haven't had a single problem with it and it's by far the best sounding amp I've used.
These amps go cheap when you find them, but tend to have problems too expensive to repair.
The problem is that none that I've heard about lately really worked.
The last two I remember hearing about had thermal failures of some sort that were uneconomic to repair, specifically trouble that only showed up after the amp had been in use for a while.
You'd be surprised how many owners an amp can go through before this sort of problem gets caught.
If nothing else, and aside from their "known issues," these are getting to be old amps - and amps have shelf lives. Anything much over ten years old is on borrowed time as, if nothing else, the electrolytics are deteriorating, just sitting there. For whatever reason, these amps are not favorites for techs to work on...so finding one cheap that works is tough.
