Studer service in DC/MD/VA Area?

Hi All,

Is there anyone who can recommend a good service tech/center within reasonable driving distance from DC for normal maintenence of my Studer 807? I was stumped in my search, so I thought this was the place to ask. The machine is in fine shape, but I do want to have some service lined up for any tweaking needed.

Hey Cosmic!
There are two really good guys in DC/MD that I have used to repair some of my analog reels to reels and mixers.

The first is a company called Audio Clinic, in Silver Springs (301) 587-0070. ask for Jim.

The other place is called Prototypes, in Kensington, (240) 223-0020. the repair tech is named Thom. The problem you might run into is that they may not have the alignment tapes. But they are both excellent technicians, and really know there stuff.

If you have the alignment tapes, try Thom at Prototypes first, if you don't have them, . . .Audio Clinic will be your best bet .. . But, even they might have them. Good luck ! Let us know how you make out. . .

THANK YOU so much; I knew of neither of these places until you brought them up, so very good useful info indeed. I am thinking about buying my own alignment tape, since even with good people available, some things just aren't going to be around in this digital age forever....
I really appreciate your response; I hope they can help solve the jumper issue in the machine that prevents it from triggering the remote switch between record/play when I use my new external Dolby A rack unit (9-pin PC connector, but it ain't responding....but knowing the Studers, they are almost infinitely customizable for every setting, and so I will let a greater mind than mine deal with that..)

That’s definitely a good idea to buy your own Alignment Tape, . .a little pricey investment. But, certainly well worth it. I'm planning on biting the bullet and do the same pretty soon too.

Especially, since there are still a lot of good techs out there willing to work on most analog recorders, but, just don’t have the alignment tapes . ..

Anyway, if you have an Alignment tape already, I would give Thom a call first at Prototypes.. .if for some reason he cant do it, . . then Jim at Audio Clinic is great too. Thom has worked on my Tascam 308b mixing board with great results,. . and Jim has aligned my 38. . . Either way you cant go wrong with either guys!
