The new rule of thumb - to avoid flaming from undercoverdecoverists is to...
"Duck & Cover!"
Or should that be Cover & Duck?
Or maybe get a cover over you if you're planning to do a cover that's BAND and employ a duck as a decoy -
don't forget the pond though -
oh, not too small a pond as there'll be too many covers that fit.

As a Post Modern male I demand the right to interpret the universe (however adverse) in terms of a chorus, bridge, M8, reprise and verse from my perspective (ie: ME as the real Jimi Hendrix at least in shlongditudinal terms).
Further: I demand the right to repeat as necessary and in whatever reinterpretation of my Id that is required to satisfy my past, current or potential future sugar cravings.
In other words: I wanna Be Me (now, should I cover that?).
P.S. I've only just noticed, (being far too involved in myself as per usual) that Id (the Freudojungian term) is very simialr to I.D. which is essentially the same thing though potentially from different perspectives with the one being more likely to be both shallower & narrower and the other being the true essence of self only revealed when brought from under COVER!

I am willing to do a cover in my live set but i am not going to waste my time recording a cover as a serious studio song to prove how great I am. To me it proves the OPPOSITE.

I think of covers the way I think of stretching before karate. It's a great way to clear your head, and get focused. And it is a great way to keep you playing if you hit a writing block, and a great way to play at all if you don't write.

Composer elitism is a bit arrogant in this joint, innit? It's like those guys who want to ban certain shows on TV or whatever. Um, there's an OFF knob. No gun to your head to listen. And unless you're the 2nd coming of Lennon/McCartney, it's probably best to strive for a touch of humility.

Or, you could just get bent. (And no, I'm not a cover jockey, I've posted maybe 3, out of a couple dozen total. But I do have a brand new CD you should go out and buy if you're interested in original material. ;) )

This rant applies to everyone except Rami, who should be banned from posting covers 'cause he sucks so much. :D

P.S. I've been thinking of starting a Steely Dan covers thread. This might be the time.

Word. I used bunches of covers to get my skills up a little and learn the recording process. I write more now that I'm comfy with my abilities and recording techniques. I still suck but covers are still fun. :D

Still waiting for Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party" from you... :)

If I could even think like you do--I'd do nothing other than entertain myself with the firing of my own neurons.

Seriously--I love it. Some people "say stuff." You carve a path through the woods and dare us to follow you. And along the way...you say stuff.

Wow, I had a little bit too much wine last night. :)

I still feel this way though. I like coming here and I like listening to the music and I appreciate the comments. It just seems like there are too many covers.

And this was not about anyone post in particular. I actually liked the Axis cover. Good guitar tone and I liked that singer's voice. Would love to see some original stuff out of your son.

You need this.

OP = FAIL

(read the forum title and try again)

So wait. Dee Dee stole your writing credit?

Is this you by the way?

Yeah. Dee Dee is a thief. And yeah that's me. I got some new hi-hats and wanted to knock something out real quick and dirty like.

The crack whore down the street needed to be knocked out. Where were you?

Oh, you were recording this...

I just think it's funny that in the related videos column, along with all those other rejects, is Celine Dione doing Shook Me All Night Long...

I'm not a recording engineer.

What you are is a tool and a jackass, and a crappy musician. I don't even have to hear your stuff to know that, it's all in your attitude. Anyone with such a myopic vision really has no business making music, so head for the "For sale" section and sell all your gear, seriously.

Lots of people here do covers, and you are doing nothing but insulting them. Only truly shitty musicians would find fault with that, trying to hide their lack of talent by criticizing others. Usually these people can't play their way out of a paper bag, know three chords, and can't tune a guitar. Lame man, really really lame.
