Steel pickups?

I'm gathering parts together to make a lap steel guitar, was wondering about pickups, though. Maybe you pickup Gurus can help? It will be 8 strings. Can I stagger 2= 6 string pups to cover the 8 string area? Think they would cancel each other out? Using pickups from a 6 str. to build an 8 string. Any thoughts or advise? Quick question; are you building your own for fun? Reason i ask,
There are lots of laps on ebay every day, from super cheap knockoffs
to cool vintage stuff. Probably cheaper than DIY unless you had some parts already laying around. Probably the least demanding luthier project out there
if you do decide to take it on.

Thanks, Zorf, hadn't seen that pup yet. Yes, building for the fun right now, maybe profit one of these days. Not very good at it, but have played a few over the yrs. and already have some parts. Pink Floyd got me addicted. Can't blame them for ALL the addictions I was just wondering if you guys had tried staggering 6 st. pups to make them work for an eight. I found several on Ebay that went for 200.00+, so I'm going to build one. Experimenting with body designs now.
