I recently connected a new piece of outboard gear, but I'm getting slight static in my signal chain. I took a photo of the set up. Any ideas as to why I might be getting static and the occasional signal drop ? I can't for the life of me figure out why this would be happening. Very Frustrating!!

Ray,
It appears that the 3.5mm adapter has the inferior, non-conductive, thermoplastic covering material. That material has been known to ionize, which allows the electrons to leak. You may want to look for some 3/0 AWG UGF cable to replace that connector. That will definitely silence your static problems.

hmm, I think I had that same setup, too. Then it caught on fire and I spent 8 months in the hospital

I thought you were supposed to use copper foil?

'Tin' foil was always Aluminium. Copper foil is supposed to repel slugs. It don't but if you connect one side to a car battery and earth the other terminal, they DO NOT LIKE IT!

Dave.

Use copper foil and get rid of slugs and static at the same time

slugs have been a major signal degradation issue for me, I wish I knew this eons ago :o
