Wall of sound or torpedo users

Ive been using the Captor X for a few years and absolutely love it.
I have a selection of tube amps and pre-amps I run through it and in combination with the right IR (I'm using the BHG Vai pack which I highly recommend) it sounds great.
The thing I did not like that much is that you have to commit to the sound, unless you send out a RAW track and use wall of sound inside the DAW.

I got some great sounding presets, but all presets took me a few hours to fine tune and needed some EQ and exciter to get the edge I like.

A while ago they released Genome and maybe you thought the same thing as I did.
Awesome modeler with great effects, and use it for example with a DI track to fatten up a recording But not really my thing, love tube amps :D

I'm using a selection of outboard gear and although it all sounds great often when I'm done with recording, it's a bit too much, little too little etc.
So I've started using the IO plugin to record my FX separate to create a wet dry in the DAW.

That's when I started looking at Genome differently and highly recommend checking it out.
I selected RAW out on the Capture X, and on the track it comes in I'm running Genome but only with a cab sim.
You can even split the signal and use 2 cabs and 4 mics.

The nice thing about this setup is that you can change almost everything after the fact including mic placements and cabs.
But most of all, and actually why I post this. the sound quality of Genome with just the IR's seems to be miles ahead of wall of sound.
I did not need any eq or exciter just the cabs and the mics and after 5 minutes I got a better sound than all the years with wall of sound.

I'm using my vintage outboard gear, but even in Genome they have some great effects.

I use it 3 ways.
As a complete rig with the DI track

I run the capture x with the RAW output to genome and use cab IRs

And I still have to test to go from the pre amp right into genome and use the power amp simulation.

It's very flexible and fun ;)

You must be getting what you want - but the setup sounds quite convoluted.

How do you mean ?
It's in essence a simple wet dry recording.

Genome just makes it possible to chose to where you want the chain to be original. If you have a complete tube amp only use cab sim

If you only have a pre amp pedal use cab sim and Poweramp.

It super easy to setup via a patch panel.
But i agree it only makes sense when recording

Genome is an Amp PROFILER - so you are using Genome just for a Cab Sims? Why not use Captor X?
