Not quite on topic, but can you send your recorded takes to a mixing/mastering engineer? That way you'll know if it really is your chain or your skills.
Until you can define what it is about your results, no one can really help you to make it sound better. Is the vocal not upfront enough? You may need some compression to even it out and make it 'sit' over your beats. Is the vocal too thin? Cut some mids and highs. Too bright? Cut highs. Too boomy? Cut lows and lower mids. Too clean? A smidgen of overdrive can help.
