I'm planning on buying one of these, in the near future (be it a few days, weeks or within a month's time), and was wondering if anyone has any string set suggestions toward getting the sound that the Bullet was designed for. I've tried one at the (now defunct) Mars Music in Indianapolis, about 3 years ago, and was amazed at what's possible out of just a bridge position humbucker and single volume knob. I forget just which combo amps I played it through, that day, but the one that really sticks in my mind is when I plugged it into a Fender Twin. I may not be able to get a Fender Twin, anytime soon, but I figure a Bullet should sound pretty good through my Peavy TransTube 258 EFX combo, or even my Vox T-25 bass combo.

One of these days, I'll be able to collect some Fenders, and maybe some Epiphones (not gonna hold my breath on Gibson, least I turn blue <G>), but until then I'll hafta settle for the best that's within my price range...$400.00 and below.

Hey, Matt.

I live in Indy. I just bought a Squier Bullet to hot rod. It's got three singles like a Strat. It'd be easy enough to get a pickgaurd for the configuration you want.

Frankly, though, the bridge and tuners are crap and the neck is questionable.

You may want to consider a Carvin Bolt Kit. Probably the best $350 electric in the world. :)

Actually, the Squier Bullet that I'm planning to buy is made with just one bridge position humbucker, and only a volume knob. I forget what Fender called their original model, but it was designed by the guitar player from Blink 182. I'd only seen the Fender original at IRC Music, on 82nd Street. The last time I called Guitar Center, they had 'em in stock but not available. I'd rather not have to order one from Musician's Friend, especially since both entities are connected, and the folks on the "brick and mortor" side are willing to beat the web site, so the next time I get a chance, when I'm in Indy, I'll have to drop by Guitar Center to see if they've got any on the sales floor.

I'm only looking to buy this one for its unique sound, of which will figure into several of my original compositions, whenever I can get started on the home recording front. Otherwise, I've got 3 more guitars, and a 12-string bass on my "need for future recordings," more likely to be a Squier Telecaster, Epiphone Les Paul baritone and Dean Boca (or Sarasota) 12-string. I think Dean also makes the 12-string bass that I've been eyeballing, at the Musician's Friend web site. Oh, and I'll also be looking for a Les Paul style guitar, not ruling out the possibility of an Epiphone Les Paul, so I guess I'm planning to add four guitars to my future lineup.

I may not be the best guitar player in the world (I only play Barre chords, at that), but I've been noodling enough, over the past 12 years, that I have a great appreciation for the nuances in sounds between body styles and pickup configurations. Thanks for the suggestion about the Carvin kit! I've seen a few hit bands, on TV, that have Squier guitars in their lineup, but now that you've mentioned it and I'm thinking about it, I'm guessing their Squiers probably aren't quite the same as when they left the factory.

That was my first guitar.

Tuners tuners tuners... could've been better.

Other than that, it's worth the price.

12 string bass? Is it like a six string with 2 strings tuned to the same pitch? what does that thing look like?

Must be an awesome bass.

That's the 12-string bass I've been eyeballing.

That's the link to a really good web site about the various ways to tune a 12-string bass.

*edit: Schecter used to make a 12-string bass, that Musician's Friend also sold, but I haven't seen it around, for quite a while, so I'll guess that they don't make 'em anymore.
