I feel that your reaction to my post is somewhat unfair. It's certainly not very kindly. I can only guess that either you mis-read my post, or you don't know the industry.
I was the engineer for the support act on that occasion (as I made clear!) As such I didn't have seniority to butt into fault tracing for the headline act. As it happens, I stuck my neck out and offered to help: the offer was, to put it far more politely than it was on the day, declined. I'm absolutely certain I'd have found the problem, but my point was that Wayon's oversight was far less dumb than others I've seen made by professionals. What happened was absurd, but that's really the whole point of the anecdote...
Oh and as to 'who the hell hired me' - for the fifteen years after I finished touring with bands, the BBC...
