Right then,

My problem is this: I get no audio playback in Sonar producer4.

I have routed my outputs correctly and the meters are confirming this. The sample rate and bit depth is set to that of the audio files. It seems as if the signal is not making it to the soundcard>

Anyone any ideas on what could be the problem?

Thanks in advance

hey bud wut is your soundcard? maybe youforgot to turn up your output from your soundcard. or you didnt plug it in the right channel from your soundcard.

Also don't forget to check your Options > Audio and make sure your sound card is selected and output drivers are correct.

Oh yeah...depending what other software you use sometimes it won't release control of your soundcard until it is closed.

Sorry if you already tried these ideas.....

cheers guys sorted now. i was trying to use the ASIO drivers but it wouldnt work. But works just fine with the MME drivers.

Does anyone know the difference between these 2 kinds of drivers. So far i have been ignorant to it and just took it for granted that it worked/

Cheers

mme is the old windows driver model and tends to have higher latency than asio which is a newer low latency driver model.
however most software has found a way to compensate for this latency.
if your using a cheap on board sound card in your pc it wont support asio. so - therefore you wont get sound out. it will support mme.
if you want asio you will need to get a asio compatible sound card.
or the new win driver model is wdm. wdm should get you low latency as well.
so if youbuy a new soundcard look for wdm and asio compatibilty.
a good inexpensive range to try is the delta series from maudio.
if your using a cheap sound card with producer you shouldnt,
because as the name implies this is high end producer software and using a cheap sound card kind of negates the aim because cheap sound cards are pretty bad for recorded track wquality. peace.

thanks manning1, i am using a terratec dmx fire 24/96. its fully supports asio in cubase. it is not a cheap soundcard like the sblive nor was it as expensive as a motu.

thanks for the advice

terratec should be fine.
i was just worried as so many people spend a small fortune on software then for inexplicable reasons use a terrible sound card.
