Ok...I bought a new soundcard.
I wanted one with pre's built in, but...I bought this.
LynxTwo-B

I was told it was VERY nice, so I got it.
But...what is the perfect pre-amp to go with this card?
PLEASE Keep the pre-amp UNDER $800.00

Thats all I have left lmao

alot depends on the sounds you are after and the mics you'll be using.....but with that budget, im sure you can get something nice.......the RNP rocks for $475.........

what are you planning on doing with all those outputs?.......

I didn't need all those outputs, I wont be messing with midi, but Ill look into that pre.

Lynx makes great stuff. Good move.

Do you want one channel or two channels of mic pre for under $800?
Is the pre also going be used as a DI for your MIDI/synth stuff, or just for vocals?

You gotta' vocal mic yet?

Do you have a decent outboard compressor?

1. It will be for vocals
2. 1 channel is fine, as I more than likely WONT be recording more than one person at a time.
3. As far as a mic, I have tons, but I want better....what do you suggest for $600.00 or under?
4. No compressor yet, I was gonna ask for suggestions on that as well.

And throw in a Shure SM-7 for your vocal mic and you should be all set.

depending on how much or little money you want to spend, here are two thoughts (which I am in the process of testing out myself.)

A used Meek MC3 or MQ3 can be had for $150 - $250 on ebay depending on the competition. This will give you a single mic preamp with compression and EQ built in. If you decide that the preamp does not suit your needs, or you outgrow it, you can just use the unit as an inserted compressor and/or EQ.

**again, I am just getting mine set up, so I do not speak from experience, but thus far, my plan is working fine... I was also able to get a nice sound from the unit plugged inline between my strat and my twin**

The suggestion for a nice compressor would be the FMR RNC which can be had for $175 - $200 brand new, shipped either from Mercenanry Audio or Humbucker Music. I am using mine as an insert in and out of my Aardvark Q10. I understand that it can also be plugged into many popular mixing boards.

Now, if you eventually get the FMR RNP (which may be the next thing that I purchase - after I get comfortable with the meek and the RNC), you will be able to use the RNC as an insert to that. Shoot, just about any of the sub $500 pre's will give you the ability to insert the RNC.

Hope this is of some help. If you want additional info, let me know and I will keep you in the loop on my progress.

Jim

-----Warning, thread being hijacked here-----

I am curious what the popular opinion is about the Presonus VXP? I am thinking my next purchase may be an RNP or the VXP or the new oneQ coming from the people at Meek.

Anyone have any thoughts about these items?

Thanks in advance.

from your recent posts, it seems like you are recording rap vocals mainly. Why didn't you just get the Lynx L22 with stereo in/out and save the money for better preamps/mics?

If I was doing rap music only, I would get apogee mini-me, which covers everything from preamp to ADC, then just invest the rest of the money on a DAC (lucid, benchmark, rme) and a kickass mic.

my 2 cents.

I had another opportunity to try out the MP20 (non-Jensen) and was still disapointed.
It sure looks nice though-blue is my favorite color! :D

A (friend's) Symetrix SX-202 sounded a bit better
in an informal test of some microphones IMHO.
YMMV.

The VXP uses the same pre as the MP20.

How come no one ever uses or suggests the Summit gear here? Joe Chiccarelli loves the Summit gear as well as Bryan Carlstrom who worked on Alice in Chains?

Not everything has to be a full rack space to be good?

SoMm

I guess I am not interested in Summit for two reasons: 1. Ignorance... I just do not know that much about it, and 2. Tubes... I am just not all that interested in tube gear.

SoMm, show me the way. What is it about Summit gear that you like? What makes it better than the other consumer tube stuff?
