I guess sometimes, when bands like The Hives or The Vines come along, I get sort of jealous of that kind of rock band thing.

........my brother, I quit gigging in '93, and i turned 36 2 months ago....... ...........Im jealous all the time:D :D :D

........STICK WITH THE PLAN......... youve got a product that sounds great, .......now its all about the haircut :D .......If you want comparisons.....put up a picture. .......aint that the truth too. :)

I could only listen to the first 10 seconds or so because it is in hi-fi, but what I heard sounded really good. The beginning kind of had a Beatle quality to it to these ears and I like the vocals. Would've liked to have heard the whole thing ... someday I'll upgrade ...

Macle... Great tune. Very melodic... You both create such unity with your vocal harmonies! The material and performance is of such a high level... a very polished and professional sound.
Everything occupies its space nicely in the mix. The vocals could come up a hair... some of the backwards cymbal work sounds a tad hot. The overall mix is excellent; it just slightly lacks the 'sparkly sheen' that would brighten the mix... although, on the other hand, a vintage analog sound has been captured on target... I must say, however, either way, the songwriting and execution are FLAWLESS. Fantastic job!:)

Pete-Yeah, the mellotron (sounds) are really cool. They have a vibe that I really like that most 'sampled' sounds don't have. I use the Gigasampler for that and pretty much all keyboard sounds including piano. I think if I didn't have the Gigasampler, all these songs I've posted would sound very different, (probably wouldn't have any keyboard/string stuff at all).

Theron-Hey, thank you very much, glad you got it! I think I know what you mean about something competing with the vocal. I actually changed the chords and arrangement in the verse from what they were originally (I had done another version of this which was pretty different), and I thought maybe now there was something wrong, something competing note wise. The notes get pretty bizarre sometimes, a D# in the bass, and then we're singing a D and F# on top. I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about, but...Glad you like the outro, I like that bass "whoop, whoop", too! Thanks very much, Theron.

mixmkr-We both thank you very much! Really appreciate it. The style thing, really great, thank you.

Guernica-I hear you! :D Finish a CD's worth of tunes, and then think, hey, lets delete all this, and do that! Okay, time to concentrate on hair (good news, we both just got haircuts) Someone also said to me abs are important, so we're gonna get one of those abinators, or whatever they are. :p Not sure I get your last 3 lines...

boydrj-Thanks for trying. Kramer says, "right-click, save target as", and then, hopefully, it will download.

caretaker9-Wow, thanks very much. I agree about the vocal coming up a bit, etc. I hear you about the sparkly sheen thing, but, as a fan of that vintage analog thing, that sure is a great compliment (especially since it's not analog! :) ) Maybe mastering and/or some remixing will help with a bit of sheen. Thanks again, too kind, the positive response on this song is a great surprise.

Hey Macle.......
.......by those last lines i mean when bands or individuals are categorized, it is as much by appearance as it is by musical content. I might suggest that you sound like six pence, but then you might post a pic of yourselves........and regardless of the way you sound, you have become like the next............?

I guess im just saying that you have a great product. You and your chic are both a very talented. Fuck the category now, it doesnt matter. You can manufacture what category you want to be in with appearance and marketing. I look forward to seeing how far you can take this..........

You know all of this im sure, sorry for ranting and being redundant.

..............stick with the plan, its a good one G

Macle:

I really like your style; not only musically, but in general.
I think Got Love is got that loose feeling, which fits the mood well, and the odd harmonies (phycalidalic?) of the organs at the end are awsome, too. But for some reason, I can almost swear I have heard this song from you before, especially the part where says, "Got Love".

Anyways, your songs are being played in my car here in Taiwan, and whoever ride in my car love your music!! Seriously, you are an insperation to me, your music, attitute, and everything. Awsome!

Nice picture of you 2 :)

hey macle,
it's me again! :D I was wondering if you would check out a tune of mine in the 'sorry guys' thread.. It's not as heavy as the others, and I would like to hear your thoughts on the mix.. I normally don't do this, but I would like to hear any thoughts you have while listening.. thanks if you bother, don't worry if you don't! :)

great tune again!

I'd love to hear it cause all of your stuff is so professional but your link gave me a message that went something like this:"Sorry macle is so popular right now that he's outgrown his bandwidth limit and needs to start hosting somewhere like nowhere radio."

;)

I just love your stuff. I love the style, and you always do such a good job.

The first thing that strikes me is all the "doodads" you have in your songs. Different keyboard sounds, strings, etc. They always add such a nice effect. The vocal counter-line during the last chorus was excellent.

Although I liked the song quite a bit, I've liked others (e.g., I Want Some...) from you a little better. This one had a cool chord progression though. What is that last chord as you transition out of the chorus?

I hate to say this, but I think there's a line... "it can't be wrong, when it feels so right" that's from "You Light Up My Life" (Debbie Boone). :)

Oh well...

Seriously - great job.

i want my macle. i want my macle.

seriously, what am i doing wrong? everytime i link it says bandwidth over the limit.

A lot of songs have used variations of that thought.;)

I agree. This was just the most embarassing example I could come up with. And I wanted to tweak Macle. :)

This is quite a catchy tune. I enjoyed it alot. I think you know exactly what makes listeners tick. Congratulations on that.

I still have problems with the recording quality. Decidedly low-fi, kinda veiled sound. Dude, you have great songs, check everything in your chain. Something is really wrong.

Wail on !

God, I love your writing, your arranging, your singing (and hers). This song painted real vivid pictures of being in the city--almost like a movie. In fact, I could see this song in a movie with a montage of shots behind it.

I think I've said this before, but your stuff sounds fresh and interesting--almost as if I was given exclusive privelige to hear a lost beatles album around the time of revolver and sgt. pepper.

In my heart, I am pulling for you to do real well. I think the world needs this music. I know I do. My fondest thanks for sharing.

"Rollin coins for a beer and a slice,we dont have much but the price is nice".Oh yeah, been there! These lyrics will resonate within a lot of people......good stuff man....just had to post again.......couldnt help it.

check your chain??

there is nothing about this that is lo-fi - it has a "sound"..but, it sounds like all of the other songs recording wise, which is a good thing. that is crazy talk cyan...

superb recording...maybe a few mixing issues that were mentioned already. but nothing to do with the chain, imo.

Wes480, ok, if you say so. I think because the song is so good, we pay less attention to the mix, and thats a great thing, but I could not help but notice, the very attenuated highs, the slightly wooly mids, the lo-fi vocals.

I think its a matter of taste, as someone said, the mixes remind him of early beatles, and that's good. I listen to old mixes too, but maybe not as old. I am more into Elvis and the righteous brothers so maybe that's why I think something is wrong.

This is actually a compliment of the highest when I say that I've finally heard a macle song that I'm not utterly thrilled with. Then again, your songs sometimes take a few listens before they really grow on me, so I could change my mind completely by tomorrow. :D

Anyway, productionwise, I think your vocals get a little buried at times. Not necessarily volume-wise; just hearing a little conflict with some of the other mid-range instruments. They do sound awfully nice, though.

Performance-wise, I hear a weird idea going on in my head I'd like to throw out as a "way-out there" suggestion: I'd be curious to hear the harmonies flip-flopped. I realize it might be out of both of your ranges, but if you can pull it off, I think it would sound really exciting. You see, right now it's like both of you are singing very comfortably in your ranges. Almost too comfortably.

I always find the singing to be more dynamic when people's ranges are just a bit tested. I could be way off on this one, though. Oh well. Keep up the great work. I'm a big fan!
