Wait a minute. Were those 57's American or Mexican? Or a mixture of both? Or Canadian?

The real American 57's and I think that there were a few Mex in the mix as well.

Ah god, they're great though. (father ted voice) :)

Sorry to get off track, but my favourite Father Ted episode, the send up of the film "Speed" link. This is incase you have never seen Father Ted. Oh and if you like Father Ted check out "The IT Crowd" which is written by the same guy.

Now back on track (or to justify the off track) Oh and I bet those boxes are full of Chinese SM57 knock offs.

Alan

Since this is the 57 appriciation thread, I was tracking my cover band and through up 57's for the scratch vocal. Except for some syblance (no pop filter and I never intended to keep them) the vocal sounded great. Very deep, resonant sounding. I'm now trying to exorcise the syblance out of the track so I can use it.

They're both fantastic shows!

Do they utilize 57's on the set?

I know - one can have thousands of dollars tied up in all of the exotic multi this, multi that microphones only to find that the lowly SM57 can be one of your best choices.

I've spent a few days with my 57 experimenting with mic placement for my Marshall Superbass & 4 x 12 (for guitar).
I didn't get much joy from a squillion variations on placement & preamp.
I grabbed an old dynamic from the shelf - I bought it in the late 80's - a no name brand called La Grange (looks like a 58).
I used it a lot in the 90's but it gained retirement through collective wisdom & my reluctant purchase of a 57.
It sounded great on the 2nd variation I tried (which was a pre choice) & from then on as well.
Then again my ears may have been influenced by nostalgia & an undercurrent dislike of the 57.

That will be the legacy of the 57---------it works at least OK for anything you throw at it. I don't think you can find a situation where they absolutely sound like doo-doo.

Well I am sure that it has been done before and I just had the opportunity so I went for it.

Did a whole weekend festival with nothing but twelve SM57's and four Radial JDI passive Di boxes.

Wasn't that bad at all! May now have to sell all of my other microphones.

Not surprised by this at all. SM57---- The microphone of presidents.
