I need a pair of small diaphragm condensers for under 800. Mainly used as Rock overheads but may see other use, probably acoustic guitar. What do you guys think?

For rock, the Josephson C42s should do you well, and I beleive you can stay within budget for two singles (a matched pair is a bit more). You should also try the Pelusos, although they may be better suited for classical and acoustic work.
If I had $800 for a pair of SDCs, I'd save just a little more and buy a pair of the Josephson C42s. I haven't even heard them, but they are highly respected mics, and if I didn't like them I would be confident that they would retain a high resale value.
check out the audix scx-one mics... very under-rated imo. i love my pair that i use for drum overheads and acoustic guitar. They have been likened to the josephson c-42s by some on this board.

I agree about the SCX1's - and that was me who made the SCX1 comparison to the Josephson C42. They are very close, with that same sort of buttery, warm sound. Sam Ash actually has SCX1's right now for $269 each. http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?SKU=ASCX1
