Another great collaboration! I really liked the way the song changes (classic Sam)...

On my machine, the vocals during the second section (right about 1:45) sounded a little bit low and a bit muddy, but overall they sounded good! I liked the lyrics!

Great job!

Much much better mix. As a big Floyd fan I feel like I hear an influence there. Kinda has the same atmosphere as Great Gig in the Sky....very cool.
Do you have 'verb on the vox? It could use that watery liquid reverb that Pink Floyd uses on a lot on their vocals.
I really like the little synth blurbs that sam does right after the first Sunshine Storm brewing line....really nice phrasing to go with that patch.
I'm not sure about that faster center part though. I like the change but it sounds unfinished. I'm not sure what it needs but it seems a bit empty.
Actually this is one of only a half-dozen tunes I've downloaded from here. There's something about it.....I can't quite put my finger on it but it strikes a chord with me. It's funny because when I first heard it I thought the vox was high enough but it's really transformed by being able to be led by the vocal line.

There's a stormmm...cloud....brewing...hmmm hmmmmhhmmmmmmmmmmm
;)

BTW..........props to ya' for saying no to the evil demon Autotune!
I'm with you.

Cool that you liked the lyrics! Yes on the classic Sam changes! That is part of why I asked him for the collab. Nothing like a challenge!

So cool that you followed through on your thoughts!

"As a big Floyd fan I feel like I hear an influence there. Kinda has the same atmosphere as Great Gig in the Sky....very cool. "

Not that you give a rats ass but, I've been told about a loose (very loose) Pink Floyd comp since I started writting(20yrs ago oh fuck?) ) and I listended to them no more than any other teen with taste and angst issues. I used to hate the comp, now I don't care. (and after all that, you were probably talking about Sam's playing:):D).

If you find yourself "putting your finger" on what is lacking, let us know. I'm sure you can fill the void!:D

Lots of thanks for the time and thoughts..

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUdge cikles! I swear I'd give something big and important up in exchange for the ability to sing. Not to whine but, the fact that I can't is a hard pill for me to swallow. I will not be remedied by Auto Tune. I will get better, continue to suck or I will stop trying to sing.

I'm not a vocal coach, but I believe everybody can learn to sing. Your voice is not bad. You have problems with pitch, and I don't think you are breathing and placing the air properly. Its nothing you can't learn. A few lessons and some practice, you will be singing so much better that you'll amaze yourself. If it really bothers you, see somebody that knows the mechanics. All you'll have to give up is a few bucks for some help.

I started playing music in 64 and attempted singing for 15 years before somebody showed me the right way to breathe, etc. I learned to sing from the diaphragm and not from the throat. It made a huge difference. My range is not much better, but my pitch and tone improved greatly. You shoulda heard my early efforts. You sing better now than I did.

Some people have trouble only when singing with headphones on. The remedy for that is to take a can off one ear, so you can hear the track and your actual voice at the same time. Works for some.

Last, I didn't mean to upset you with the auto tune thing, but I'd be doing you no favors if I I lied and said the vocal was perfect. I have nothing to gain by being honest except one thing--to try and help another human being strive for perfection. Its not pleasant to criticize for me. I hate it. Maybe something good can come of this, though.

People say to me at gigs sometimes--"If I only had some talent, I'd love to do what you do." Translated, that means "I'm too lazy to actually put the energy towards learning something, cause I'm making a pile of money in my day job."
In other words, they cop out. So don't allow yourself to do that. There are vocal teachers out there who can train you in the basics, which you can use to sing whatever you want. Its time for the next step, thats all. Thanks for letting me speak.

FANTAMOS meets Pink Floyd in a Diner and Spanks them with Spatulas. (Associated Press, Long Island NY)

This is interesting stuff guys. I like most of it. I thought the heavy guitars could have and should have reaped a bit more havoc. If you're gonna go heavy, fuckin go heavy. Was it to give space for vocals? Was it to keep us Floyd fans from running away screaming? A person can love floyd and love musical wall bashing as well.
So Sam, if you please....

Listening on monitors now. Nice full sound right up til that 1:47 break. I still wanna hear more of that heavy Rythm git, but that's a preference thing, not a flaw.

GREAT ideas, good mix.

Ed. Note - There were no keyboards in this tune.. All blurbs were done on the guitar.. :D

thanks for the comments guys.. As I mentioned, everything except the vocals and solos were done about 2 years ago before I had a clue about sound.. It was recorded on a 4 track mini disc...No Pods, Sansamps or decent drums.. I just took a preset drum beat from the SR-16 and wrote something around it..

As far as the rediculous guitar solo, After theron wrote the words, I tried to make a solo that was a 'sunshine storm.' :D

I attached a picture of the current digs,, I borrowed a cheap digital camera and took a bunch of pics ... Here's a pic of the current set up... That's the bass I used on this tune.. The only equipment I have left from this tune is the Alesis which I use as a glorified metronome sometimes.. :D

A mug only a mother could love..:)

ok, so let me get this straight. You get the mp3 emailed to you, are you then working with a 2 track stereo master that you are then adding to??

That's it man..:D I dont even record with my computer.. I burn it to a cd and then record that into my portastudio.. If this song doesnt have the fidelity, it's because it's an older recording.. As long as you send VBR or high quality mp3's, the sound loss is acceptable and not noticed by *most people.* To remix any parts you just have to align them..

Nice feel to the song. Good job to you both. I get a Floyd sense about it too. I'm glad that doesn't tork you anymore theron.

I like the keyboard-like guitar fills. Nice haunting melody. Love the change up at 1:45.

I might suggest a more submissive (maybe a plate) reverb on the vocals. As it is some of the words get blended together.

OK so give.....how did you get those synth like sounds out of your guitfiddle? I really liked that sound.
Good pics BTW....I need to learn how to use my wife's digital camera so I can do that. I will spare everyone any glimpse of my face however....I don't want to get kicked off the board. :D

crawdad,
You didn't upset me at all with your comments. I was already upset:D. Honesty breeds progress and I'll settle for nothing less. I've come a long way with singing over the years and your right that the next step is some pro coaching. Thanks for the ear:cool:

Theron--thank you for saying that. Still, I have felt bad all day about my comments. Like I really stepped over the line. I certainly meant well, and I think you took what I said in the spirit that it was intended, but I know it doesn't feel good to get anything other than raves. So, I am sorry for my comments, even if they help you.

Once, I was singing in a club and my dad came to see me play. The group was going over real well, but when I sat down at his table, he proceeeded to tell me I was good musician but that I couldn't sing! I just sunk. Being a stubborn and strong willed person, I worked hard on my singing--just to prove his ass wrong!

I got better over time. Never became as good as I wanted to be, but I at least found my voice and got competent enough to feel confident at it.

I'm not an internet troll waiting to jump on people, and certainly don't want to be perceived as such. I try and help when I am able. I'd rather not say anything than make a mistake. If I have in any way, please accept my apology.

AAWWW Man...........you should never feel bad for speaking the truth. I can take it and post songs on the board cause I need it. As long as someone is respectful and constuctive (as you always have been in every post of yours I've read) no ill feelings or regret are needed. My vocals WILL improve and your comments are always welcome.

Happy 4th,
No more negative vibes inside........o.k....

Peace
Theron.

SliuCe, thanks for the comments. I hope to hear a collab between you and Sab. It could be nothing less than intence quality:D . I am very partial to both of you guys songs.

TripleM,

That was plate reverb w/some chorus. I tried to color the vox to fit the mood. I also tried to not hide behind the effects, I might have missed the bullseye a bit;).

Thanks again for all the time and attention.

Theron.

Hey Theron,
.......sorry I got to this so late. Crawdad spilled a buttload full of useful stuff (buttload?) with his suggestions. Dont let yourself down. You do have a great voice tonally...... and pitch comes with practice. Ive heard some of your other stuff, and your musical skills are great. Dont settle for putting down a vocal performance that i know you can do better. (Incidently, I cant compare with the original mix, cause i didnt save it....but this sounds much better than I remember the other sounding.)
I am the type of idiot that will do 50 takes of a 4 line verse if thats what it takes to get it in pitch. I dont always succeed, but i do my damnest to get it as best as I can. If that is too tedious for some........ I agree, it is tedious..... but damnit, you know when you can do better. I respect you for shining the autotune. Fuck that. No offense to crawdad, it was a great suggestion, but I know that you can nail em it you give it enough time. Rock on my brutha:D (speaking of your stuff.... Im havin fun w/ Flawless M.)
