hey dudes,

I was hoping to get some input in the early stages.. It still needs guitar solos all over it...There are a few drum things that need to be fixed also.

it's 'Safety Dance'....

thanks if you bother..

I suppose you got permission to record and post this song:rolleyes:
how do you get your throat to contort and always sound that way when you sing:eek: ?
Nice ...very nice start...shoot, it sounds waaaay past a start. Can't wait to hear the gitters...

Screw Lenny Kravitz and his copy stuff...this poo-poos all over his stuff....and I betcha didn't even use a flying V either;)

thanks mixmkr,

No permission.:D.. I just did the vocals about an hour ago... I think I made them tooo loud.. I used the ol' Hamer Telecaster with the 'hot rail' too.. It really is a decent copy..(the guitar I mean).:D

thanks dude

I think this version rules!

How were the vocals done? Very cool effect!

Dude, I love the guitar sound...and the vocals. The way it should have been done originally!

Oh............and I don't think the vox are too loud either:cool:

I'm trying to get past the fact that I HATED this tune when they were playing that stupid fuckin video on MTV all the time (I wanted to punt the dwarf). This is actually not bad. WAY better than the original. Lets hear the lead.:D

Dude...

You did a good job...
Nice effect on the Vox...
You're right though...needs a lead...way cool...good performance.
later,
Joe

sonny - thanks dude:cool:

heylow - I appreciate you addressing the vocal question... I never know what volume to put them at... I sang through a Digitech Vocal 300 into a Blue Max compressor, and then into a BBE Sonic Maximizer...I have a very cheap and crappy Ev mic.. I'll be getting a 58 soooon... I'll hopefully finish this thing tonight......thanks again man.

Track Rat - thanks for bothering.. I will be saturating this with guitar solos, pretty much everywhere there's not vocals..:D I hope to finish it tonight....after work..... because now.......I must go snake a toilet..:D (unfortunately, I'm not kiddin':( )

joro, you posted at the same time as I did! :D thanks for checkin' it out man....the solos are coming....:D  I appreciate the feedback dude.

thanks dudes, maybe you can check it out again when it's done......if you don't though, thanks for the early feedback, it's appreciated..

Dig it!

(swing the drums a bit, needs a lead, something melodic in the high-ends during the entire song (not just lead parts), fun song to listen to... maybe a bit faster or a more urgent delivery needed?.... dig it!)

Too cool!

I didn't think I would ever hear that song again.

You're version is a better recording than the original.

Really liked the giutar tone.

Allways a pleasure to listen to your stuff!

a cover of a cheesey 80's song. Too bad because it's still cheesey! It sounds like you spent some time on it, and the recording sounds decent it's just a bit boring. Man why aren't you doing Sabbath or Ozzy covers? Why cover such a stupid song? You've got soem talent man, you just need to direct it more appropriately. Are you a butthole surfres fan? Don't make the same mistakes they did, because I love theat group and here a lot of shit that you do on that caliber. Their older shit is so great then they got into this commercial slump and start to go cheese and fucked up everything that made them great. Sure thsi is a catchy song with the hooks and the sing-a-long thing, but you have struck me as someone to aim higher than that... IMHO:D

But with my bullshit know-it-all attitude aside, I agree with Kelly on this one. I'd step it up a notch or two, and add some b/u vocs and some solos or something else to keep it interesting. For what you did it was creatively done and sounds like a good production.:)

Sabbath, my brutha.....
Ive listened to alot of your stuff. And its very impressive...(hole situation is very cool). You have the balls to step off and take chances, and it works for ya..... but god damn.... I hate the original version of that song with every fucking ounce of my being. ....sorry. .....so no matter how well you remake it....its still that fuckin song. If you have the original "Men without Hats" version of that, burn it. A person would have more fun getting high off of the fumes of burning vinyl than listening to that damn thing.............just my humble opinion. I do look forward to hearing more of your stuff though. take er easy:)

Sam...

All other shit aside bud...

This is a great cover.. The drums sound pretty decent and are even programmed relatively convincingly.. The guitars have a real Sabbath feel to them... I really wanted to hear a higher repetative lead guitar to counteract these power chords.... .. But I can live with the powerchords..... Im really pleased with the way you mixed the cymbals, I hate loud cymbals.... Everyone makes their cymbals go CRASH!, and if you listen to a Mutt Lange, Mike Shipley, Tom Lord-Alge production you see that they always blend the cymbals,to the point of almost burying them so as they sit on top of the bass drum...(if you know what I mean).. You have done the same thing, so thats good (IMO)...
Your voice is great, on this song... I take it the lo-fi effect on your voice was purposely done, unless it's my headphones....

You do a fantastic cover of this tune.

Kelly Holdrige - thanks a lot! I tried to apply your suggestion of something else going through besides guitar, if you feel like hearing it again, that would be cool... if not, thanks for your tips.:D I cant speed up the drums without redoing the whole thing because I played the drums live on an electric drumset.. I didn't/don't record with midi because I am an idiot.. I would have been able to speed it up..

GT - thanks man, I wasnt sure if anyone would get it... Always a pleasure to hear your tunes as well...:D

rats - you hated it!:D cool response  The reasons why I did this tune are 1 - for a girl (I'm sure it won't help) 2 - I really do like the original melody. 3 - I'm not very good and it was easy to play, 4 - I'm an idiot, 5 - It was in my limited vocal range. :D I'm not too familiar with the butthole surfers, but I appreciate the words... After hearing your tunes, I hear where your coming from... maybe you can check out the new version and see if its any better... if not , thanks again dude..

Guernica - :D great response! Yeah, if you don't like the original you will certainly want to vomit on this.. I tried to keep certain parts the same..:D thanks for the feedback, and check out the new version..........if you want to vomit again..:D

VOXVENDOR - thanks for checkin it out man.. I got a new vocal processor and I can't help but abuse the vocal effects.. I'm really trying to lean off but it isn't easy when you have a voice like mine.. it was on purpose for this one, but I kind of think I over did it.. I added the keyboards and solos and hopefully you'll check it out to see if it's any better... thanks again dude:cool: My friends totally ranked on me when I played them this tune! :D Screw em, I love the original melody!!

I think I remember the song. Somewhere in the 80's. Can't remember what the original sounded like but this is a good version. The sounds and the delivery go with the song. Nice guitar sound and recording.

Big fan of the remake...

Let's face it...everybody does remakes. Van Halen built a career out of turning old tunes into rockin' classics. You, my friend have done the same.:)

I agree with you that this song has a great melody and a good chord progression to jam on. The keys harken back to the 80's sound which is appropriate, and the guitar solo over the top gives a much more modern sound to the song. But, what does it for me is the drums. The agressive kick and toms in the chorus really brings this song together.

Remakes are a good creative outlet...you can audition new sounds, experiment with different vocal styles, and expand your musical horizons. I disagree with rats about your aim. I think you are right on with this cover/remake. Adding your own style to a cover, and perhaps improving on the original is a creative challenge. IMO, you have achieved that!

Sam...

Turn those Keys Down!!!!!!!!!:D

Jesus, Thats all I could hear... with this itty bitty drum beat below it.....

And then during the chorus, when the keys stop, you need something there, cause it sounds very abrupt... almost like someone in the audience pulled the plug on the keyboard....

Maybe stick a different key part there in the chorus or something...

I do like where your going with the keys... Great stuff.. just too loud ;)
