Unpossible!
Here is an unfinished song that I had posted before. I got some new converters, and CANNOT believe the difference it made in the sound quality. SO MUCH EASIER to here what is going on. I tweaked a couple things here, hopefully will have a finished version next week......

:D

I like this tune Nl. Mix sounds good to me. Everything is pretty clear. No real advice. One of the drum sounds is out of place. Don't know which one. Sorry. Just sounds funny at times. Happened around 2:00.

everythings a little too live for me.
like the vox and the kit are in the same room, and neithor is direct mic'ed.
the gits too, i'd go with less verb.

like the git sound.

it sounds like a well planned 2 track recording.
(cept the kinda buried vox)
yea, that tom needs it's own mic.

just my 2 cents.

OK - I put a pretty heavy verb on the master buss - I'll back it off a bit. (Vocals were in one room, drums 25 miles away in another room, and the guitars were recorded direct)

I don't know if I agree with the vox being buried or not - I thought it was maybe a tad loud in spots.

The Toms - Oh the agony - they are miced individually - they just sound horrible - I think I may have to replace them with samples......

Thanks for the review! :D

What DI did you use for guitars?
methinks it sounds very good overall.

Is that the tom in question @ 2:06?
Ahh, yep.
Your toms sound as bad as mine!
Holy crap! Are they Sonars by chance!? :D

The DI was as follows -

Jackson 7 String -> Fender Digital Head -> Line out of head ->Peavey/AMR VMP-2 ->MOTU 828mkII

Oh the Toms - Nope, not Sonor - Premier. The drummer recorded the tracks at his house - don't really know what happened to the drum tracks.

Just D/L the Drumagog trial - really easy to use - now just have to decide if it's worth the money, or I may just record two or three tom samples for each tom (only 2), and manually place them.

This mix lacks an "in your face" quality, that i feel is important to the genre of music, too much reverb maybe?

So im litening along and all is fine...all is nice and balanced (good job)......
And then.......BONG BONG.......this Gawd Awful tom tom comes out of no where!!! It was so heinous! :D You gotta fix that Gunnar :o :p .

Ahh, i know why it may lack in your faceness.
Those guitars are di'd througha fender DSP.
You oughta retrack that.

Yep, the Toms! Oh the Toms! I eq'd the bejeezus outta of 'em to fatten them up (yes, I know, they don't sound like it, but you should hear 'em raw).

I am going to have to buy drumagog I think - I blended a kick sound in with the actual sounds, and it came out "better" - I will probably by drumagog and one of FarViews cd's os samples. Or it looks like I can make my own samples maybe.

I think its the overuse of Verb mostly. I am going to mic up the cab and add bass before it's done. Just trying to eliminate as many shortcomings as possible before the project is done as it's a 10 track CD project......

Oh ya -

Fin - Like I said in a earlier thread - I will NOT let anyone track drums anymore - I have a good room and GREAT converters now - HUGE difference in the cymbal sound quality - the cymbals suck on this recording......

Yeah i finally recorded the worst drummer with the worst kit ever about three moths ago.

This guys sound makes that tom sound GOOD!

So i go out and buy soundreplacer and boom, im back in buisness.

Just took the crappy drums out and it all came together.

Its also a cool tool if used in moderation too.

Nowadays ill get the drummer, before we start tracking, to hit each piece of his kit, and ill stick that in a different session.
Then as i need ill go to each drum, usually the snare, and effect the shit out of it! Compression, eq, verb...the whole shebang!

Then ill duplicate the snare track and replace the dup.
That way i can tuck the effected snare underneath.

And ill still do my normal processing on the original snare tracks too.
But when you bring up that new sample you really start noticing some "in your face power"
That dosent sound sampled! Because its the same drum as in the overheads.

Sorry about the long post...i obcess about good drum sounds :o

Plus ill need a kick ass house clock.
So much $$$$, but its next on the shit list.
I did however get a tape machine for my B-day so thats fuckin awesome!
Its a 2 track mastering deck! (1/4in)

Yep - I just got 16 tracks of A/D with a pretty killer clock - had to give up my 20+ tracks of A/D/A to get it, but WOW! what a difference.

:D

edit - Oh, and I am drooling over your new deck - I would love a nice mastering deck.....

What brand, and how much did it run you?

Would them be 'em catalytic kind?

Schecter C-7 finally arrived. I've played it mercilessly.
Not sure if I love it, but I definitely like 7 strings.
Has a strange "twang" to it I'm not used to. I've downtuned and attempted to intone a 6 string to B before, and though this is more cohesive (der), the twang-of-which-I-speak was not present on the 6 string.

Also got the GT2. Haven't DI'ed with it yet, but I can kinda see how people have said it is "phasy", not necessarily in a bad way IMO though. I played with that lil ho's knobs for a while last night through ampeg/crate, and could never make myself non-limp...jury is out.

Tonight, C-7/good ol' boss mt2/ampeg line out to the crap...err...crate...
My wife asked if that was a buritto in my pocket, or if I'm just happy again in the cellar :) .

That was slightly off the subject.

I was "under the influence". :D
