I then tried my 603.....I know, I know, the 603 is not a vocal mic....but I got to tell you, it sounded much better than the other two mics.

I really Like the 603 alot. I have found it to be a very versatile little mic, and fairly inexpensive. Nice work.

Well, after alot of trial and error I recorded another tune I'd like to get feedback on.(American Dream) My main objective was to reduce noise, so I turned the drive all the way down, and added just enough gain to attain the db levels I needed. I recorded the tracks on my Boss BR8 using a MXL603 mic, and then converted the files to wav using a utility from Boss. I then imported the wav files into n-tracks and added a little reverb on vocals and then mixed down. I then converted to wma so that I could upload to AcidPlanet. This was my first time ever mixing with a PC based program, so it's still rough. I think I got a better result as far as noise/hiss is concerned. As always, feedback greatly appreciated.

I thought the guitar on American Dream sounded terrific. The vocal sounded like it had been doubled and I didn't care for it. It doesn't sound natural to me. There is a solution; I don't what it is, haha. Your voice has similar timbre to mine and I am struggling as well.

Good sound quality. The only noise I hear sounds like typical room sound before the music starts... forced air or a computer fan maybe, and you could take that out with a quick fade-in.

Yeah, I know, vocals aren't exactly my strong suit. I probably go overboard trying to compensate with reverb and double tracking. Something I want to try on my next recording is layering my vocals. In other words, just taking one vocal track and bouncing to other tracks with maybe a slightly diffrent effect rather than double and triple tracking my vocals. I don't think my problem with vocals is pitchiness as much as it is dynamics. What the heck, that's why I'm still a rank amateur.
