That's a beauty!!! Touches all the bases. I love the "Ricky" style f-holes. I'm a big Gretsch fan. I had three, now down to two. The master volume control is a God send. Really nice. For $350? That's a real steal. You done good, man.

Yeah, me too.
This one was a steal at $620 with hardcase, 12 string. This is my cheap China guitar. Made in China.
Went with clear pickguards from ebay. $17.99.
This guitar has that neck line though. That line that starts at the headstock. Where the head always breaks off, from whatever. Figures, cheap china..

There are a lot of great deals to get.
The Custom in the article was only 150,00 euros and feels like a strat and plays like a strat that's in the 1000,00 range.
Just because there is a different name on the headstock (not a bad thing now a days
)

to each his own. Not a fan of copies. Fender makes the Stratocaster, that is the proper one to get.

I think a lot of people would disagree especially now a days 
There are many brands making strats that are better in quality and rival custom shops for a lower to much lower price.
Think about older charvel/jacksons, prs silver sky and "de"fender.
Even Ibanez started as a copy brand.
Don't get me wrong i have 3 original fenders including a sonic blue first generation malmsteen. But i play them much less than the "copies".
It does depend what you buy. There are more crap versions than better

A scarf joint on the headstock isn't just a "cheap China" thing. There are US guitars that use scarf joints as it's a more efficient use of the wood. Done properly, they are also stronger than a single piece neck, especially on headstocks that tilt back such as Gibson's. Taylor uses them on their guitars. PRS uses it on some of their guitars. Godin uses them on certain series. They are quite common.
Flat headstock, like on Fenders, don't have the same weak spot, so scarf joints aren't used there.

This is my guy. $650. Chinese. I have the same scarf joint. That's pretty normal as far as I know. I just picked it up after a few months. With the weather
changes and what not, it's still in tune. Impressive

Gretsch has a nice wide nut. Unlike the tight Rickenbacker narrow nut. Two great twelve strings. Each their own thing.

I have a Rick 330/6. Though not a cheapo, I got an insane deal on it. I was going to go for the 330/12, but I already have 2 12s, the Gretsch and a
Gibson J-45/12.
The nut on the Rick is narrow, but very comfortable. I would be interested to know how much wider the 12 string nut is. I should just look it up.
EDIT: I just did look it up. The nut is 1.63" for both the 6 and 12 string. So, yeah. That would be very narrow.

It's the other way around. Single piece necks are more likely to give from a shock.
Using a scarf joint may be cost effective but it's also much stronger.
Any joint can fail, of course, but usually catastrophic neck breaks are higher then where a scarf would be.

I bought one of those Yamaha Revstars which I know is not budget but they are affordable, let's say. I could tell it was a pretty good instrument but unfortunately...well...stupidly I bought it online and it arrived with a nut about 40 stories high, clearly mis-cut, misaligned and not flush with fingerboard etc. "Oh Sir, we inspect all our guitars before shipping...". Not this one.
I got my money back. But anyway...not budget, but affordable.

Nice. I assume that's yours. What I find interesting is that you have the low string before the high string. My friend strings his the same way. He says it's the "McGuinn" way. I've always strung them the other way. To me, the low string "gets in the way" of the high string so I have to pick harder to attack both strings. But, whatever. It's still one of the most beautiful guitars ever. A true work of art and engineering.

No way. Those revstars look nice. Yamaha makes straight professional instruments. However I hear that is common in many of their acoustics.
Would you say it had potential? If the action was lowered.
