Rapper needs to be a freestyler??

Well i think its a plus to freestyle because, you never know when theirs cameras rolling round you or a cypher is jumping and you wanna jump in. My freestyle game has watered down but man i remember a memory of doing a live set at this indie show spitting over 2 80 min cd's when burning cdr's was the coolest shit.

Its was crazy man, and after that i had the worst migraine ever, with the voice of method man at 80yrs old (whutup cliff!).

But freestyling too me is a requirement man.
 
I'm a good lyricist at writtens but it's undoubtedly embarrassing to be at a cipher, cats know you're an MC, and a good one at that but you can't freestyle at all.

Honestly, I don't care about impressing other emcees.

I could care less what someone thinks if I don't jump in a cypher. I'm a grown man, I've been performing at Hip-Hop shows for 13 years, and I've been recording for over 7 years. I've released 2 albums, moved thousands of units, and I work with some very well known people in the industry.

What so-and-so thinks about me in the local cypher means nothing at all.

Anyone who practices can freestyle. It takes talent to write a song with replay value. Not to mention, an album with replay value.
 
if your a rapper then freestyling should come somewhat natural

this is a gurenteed way to constantly stepping your freestyle game up


write lots of raps, i set myself wit a 3 16s a day quota, the more you wite the better youll be at freestlying cause your mind will remember what words ryme with what, and how 1 bar should sound following the other, trust me

n take it slow, set a pace n stick to it, spit a bar, pause for a second to think of somthin then spit another bar, alot of cats tend to freestyle somewhat uptempo n end up fumbling over their words or getting stuck cause they couldnt think of a ryme quick enough at the tempo they set themselves at


when your frestylin n your strike word is "playa" and you cant think of anything that rymes with "playa" then juss say another word n see if you could think of somthin that rymes with that other word, not every bar hasto ryme with the one before, n youd catch other cats attention since they thought you were gonna ryme playa with flava or somethin, but instead you threw em a curve

try to memorize all the rymes you write, this will help your freestyle game, n you could always spit a part of tha verse you have memorized if you need to


n practice
 
I think freestyle is pretty useful for getting ideas. I've a buddy of mine who'll just beat box into a tape machine and just throw out a few raps over it. I think if you want the end result to be specificaly theme based, then sitting down with a pen and paper is the wya to go. But if you're looking for inspiration, then free-styling is a good way to start. Not all the stuff you come up will be useable, but you'll find some that works. In a live scene, it just offers up somethig new like and improvised guitar solo.

i don't think so.. many people say that u can't be lyrically versatile if u ain't doing battles but i think it's pretty impossible to judge any mc if he's still good at writing rymes. Ofcourse battles give u name and people get to kno u but i think it's more like entertainment rather than a skilltest.. I've been trying and trying to freestyle fo several years now and it still doesn't come out as i want to deliver it. :D:D gots to practise more!

Perfect example of a Battle Rapper who's a horrible song writer... Lloyd Banks.

Dude can't hold down a full album, and can barely hold down a full song. His 16's on a G-Unit album are fine, but that's enough... That's why dude can't sell significant numbers.
 
I guess the key is to move units not how many battles you won. Yeah, it will give you street cred as a freestylist, but at the end of the day who's paid? I would have loved to hear Big L in other fashions, because his street demeanor and battling skills ranks with the best of them. Papoose is another one, (Sorry, my rap knowledge is limited, I'm almost 40 and I'm on the East Coast) but Papoose can battle and give them what they want too! It shows versatility, plus it expands your knowledge. Just the fact that you can sit down and create an image in others mind with your lyrics is fascinating and it takes more than freestyling. If you want it done right, take your time and dot your I's and cross you T's properly!

Yea, I think versatility is great but if ur doin either one of freestyle or write n spit, its you whos gettin the benefit, provided you give em what they need. battles give u name on the street, the other gets u name,fame, and money..
Though havin said all these, I just dream of bein a freestyler plus writer..but the only thing i can focus on rite now s writin.. and not freestylin accordin to ma situation here. and if I focus on two things i m not good at, i might loose it all.. so i just believe diff ppl have diff views on admittin a person as true rapper..still as i said, the benefit is there..
 
i never liked battle rappers, ive gotten into a few battles, only lost 1, n it was first one, but battle rappers to me dont really come off as musicians, cause all their doin is shittalking in ryme, almost all of em cant make a decent record, n their substance n subject matter doesnt have much of a range, thas why all these dudes on these SMACK dvds arent doin anything

un said it!!!! i mean i used to get tripped up over this, but not anymore. i have been in a couple of battles where i freestlyled and slammed dudez and soem where i got slapped around. but i realized whether i won or loss, that "glory" is shortlived and irrelevant cuz even when i lost, i had peole givin me props for sjhit i came wit and for the songs on the cd i was passin out - n most of them folk remember the battle for a day - the songs stay in ya head!!!!

its to each his own, . . . there will always be peple tryin to say u gotta do everything in order to be "real" regarding an EMCEE - but fuck that. u decide what kind of artist you are goinna be and stick wit it

now if u say "i dont freestyle" - DONT GO HANGIN ROUND CYPHERS WIT A HUNGRY LOOK IN YA EYES - and u will be ok!!!
